‘Wishes’ Granted
Singer Amy Grant has branched out into TV as host of “Three Wishes,” NBC’s latest entry into the feel-good reality genre dominated by “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Each week she and her team will go into a town and make three dreams come true. Grant may be the anti-Ty Pennington. Where he adds white-hot hype and energy, she brings cool compassion and gentleness — and a song or two. The only downside to Friday’s premiere episode was that it jerked too many tears. The stories are emotional enough without tugging so obviously at the heartstrings. But that’s a problem with “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” too. Truth be told, though, I’d watch Grant read “Popular Mechanics.”
