Underwood: Oklahoman of the Year

Oh, sure, it’s great to be voted the American Idol. But Carrie Underwood now has another title to add to her resume: Oklahoman of the Year.

Joining the ranks of former Oklahoman of the Year Garth Brooks, this year’s American Idol winner was chosen by Oklahoma Today magazine.

Tell your favorite reality show moment of 2005

It’s the time of year when everybody in the media is making a list, and checking it twice.

No, it’s not related to Christmas. It’s those endless end-of-the-year lists — best and worst movies, TV shows, songs, deodorant, dental floss; you name it, there’s a list that has it.

So, Reality Bytes will join in. What did you think was the best reality show moment of the year? Was it Carrie Underwood’s American Idol win? Judd’s ungracious farewell speech on this fall’s Survivor? The Linz family’s joy-filled win on ? Any Beauty and the Geek clip including Richard? Or something altogether different? Hit comment and share your favorite moment from 2005’s reality TV.

Speaking of American Idol, the new season launches on Jan. 17, with its interminable audition clips. Until then, 2005’s runner-up, Bo Bice, is releasing his new album. (I confess, I voted for him to win.) Read a bit more about The Real Thing.

Lingerie Meets Ice Cream Sundae? - Project Runway 2

Lingerie Meets Ice Cream Sundae? - Project Runway 2

What the heck where they thinking? I know there are stereotypes about designers and many of them are true, and yet, I can’ help to wonder WHAT? The team challenge was to create sexy wearable Lingerie… I don’t wear lingerie and if I did, I’m not sure that I’d be getting in to any of these frothy designs.

Here are a few of the photos from the most recent episode you decide. (DEC. 21).

I think you get the idea… Regardless of everything I’ve said, I LOVE this show and this week was just delicious fun with just two meltdowns. I think we got a glimpse of the DRAMA that is yet to walk down the runway!

In case you need to catch up, BRAVO replays them on a regular rotation.

Did anyone else think these design were…

Martha Ends Apprentice Series with Style and Class! Donald Take Note!

Martha Ends Apprentice Series with Style and Class! Donald Take Note.

What a way to go out! While the ending of this series last night, (Dec. 22), was a little rough, including reading the winner’s name from a card, the finale had the Martha touch everywhere including champagne for everyone after the winner was announced! Donald, if I might be so blunt, take note, this was a classy way to toast the winner!

I came away thinking Martha really cared about who would work in her company! It was pretty clear through the ending that Dawna would join MSLO (Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, lingo from the show… I feel sooo connected). Anyway, in my opinion Betheney, just wouldn’t fit in. Okay, I borrowed that line from Martha too.

While this series suffered in the ratings when compared to the Apprentice Donald Trump, it did have a steady loyal following of some 6-9 million viewers each week.

Dawna, the Apprentice, will receive, a new car and a salary of $250,000 per year as development director of Body + Soul Magazine.

As we say good-bye to the Apprentice - Martha Stewart, Donald, the Apprentice series is all yours!

Apprentice Martha Finale, Bethenny vs Dawn - NO JIM!

Apprentice MS Finale, Bethenny vs. Dawn - NO JIM!

In the last episode of the Apprentice Martha, Jim was FINALLY sent home. While his crazy antics had to help the ratings, I was soooo over him from the beginning. Even though he was sent packing, Bethenny chose him to help her win the Finale.

The finale will be live Wednesday, Dec. 21 on NBC and I’m sure we’ll see a few sparks along the way. In recent weeks Martha has been quoted as saying, I can’t believe we really have to hire one of these people… Do people really act like that? (From her interview in Business Week)

This is the last show in this series, and while there wasn’t a huge following, I did like the show. I’ll be setting aside any last minute Christmas chores to catch the ending, will you?

Apprentice Ending Anti-Climatic? Was Randal Wrong?

Was it just me or did the question posed of the winner leave you feeling a little awkward? The Final episode of the Apprentice 4 aired last night (Dec. 15), and while I enjoyed watching the challenge and how the teams really worked well together, I was really left to wonder about Randal.

Okay, Randal did win, but when Donald asked him if he she also hire Rebecca, I was stunned at his response, “There is only one Apprentice.” Was he worried Rebecca would outshine him? I liked Randal throughout the show, and perhaps it was just how I took it, but he really came off badly and sanctimonious and left the show hanging on an uncomfortable anti-climatic note.

Anyway, the season is over, the Donald has spoken, “You’re Hired”…

Did anyone else feel that way?

Those amazing Linz sibs

Reader Mark commented after the finale of The Amazing Race that he was embarrassed to be from Ohio after the Linz family, of Anderson Twp. outside Cincinnati, won Tuesday night. I feel just the opposite.

Yes, I know Megan got pretty hostile toward the Weaver family, but I am also sure that in 600 hours of “togetherness,” some nerves will be frayed and tempers lost. (I’d hate to think what the camera and microphones would catch me doing and saying.)

Anyway, I thought the winners’ appearance on CBS’ The Early Show Wednesday morning was more telling.

The four said they are giving half of the million dollars to their parents. The other $500,000 will be split seven ways among the seven Linz siblings.

Host Phil Keoghan admitted the Linzes were among his favorites. He said he likes the contestants who are competitive but don’t get stressed over winning every leg and take the time to enjoy the trip. These four clearly did that.

I say job well done — and by the way, I’m glad everyone applauded when the Weavers crossed the finish line. Rolly, especially, deserved credit. There was nothing he couldn’t do.

For more on the finale and the family, read the Cincinnati Post story.

‘Amazing Race’ on its last leg?

Ready, set, GO! The Amazing Race heads for the finish line Tuesday. Forget all the rumors about Cincinnati’s Linz family winning. So far the sibs have only managed to finish first in one leg of the race.

Still, I think they have to be the favorites. The previews, and we know how manipulative they are, seem to indicate Daddy Bransen is about ready to implode. On the other hand, the “why are they so mean to us” Weavers keep managing to stay in it, but they don’t seem able to leap to the head of the pack.

If you were the show’s producers, what would you do to shake up the race for next time? You’ve got to admit this version has been terribly tame. What would you do to juice up the show? Or is it just too late?

Another ‘Survivor’ winner — yawn

Well, the toughest Survivor endurance contest has ended, but it ended with a whimper, not a roar. Danni Boatwright was the last one standing, though here at the office there is talk about whether she deserved to be.

My guess is she had a pretty good guess she would be the winner, because her smiling, frequently licked full lips looked a bit … enhanced, shall we say, at the reunion. Maybe I’m just suspicious. After all, she was the first runner-up in the 1996 Miss USA pageant. She could have just lost a lot of lip weight in Guatemala.

Now attention turns to Panama (isn’t this the third time the show has visited the islands off Panama?), but the real question is, does anybody care? A former Survivor fanatic has said she’s just so over reality TV. It bores her.

Yes, Survivor is the No. 7 show for the season, but it used to be event TV, and the finales used to be party occasions. What do you think? Should we bid reality TV goodbye and just put another 30 or so CSI clones on the air?

Martha Says “we’re getting close to which of those inappropriate contestants “

In an interview with Business Week, Martha Stewart says, “we’re getting close to which of those inappropriate contestants we are actually going to have to hire. I can’t believe people behave like that”.

The Appprentice Martha Stewart is coming to a close and just three Candidates Remain:

Jim jim2.jpg

Dawna dawna.jpg

Bethenny jim2.jpg

Dawna seems the most normal of this group… but who knows… Jim just shouldn’t win, this guy is just crazy. Bethenny, could win, but I’m pretty sure there would be great cat fights!

Just two episodes left…Maybe Jim will get canned this week!

Who will win the Apprentice 4?

Well we’re down to the final two and with tonight’s episode of the Apprentice 4 (Dec 8) we are left with Rebecca and Randall battling it out to the finish.

The final two are tough cookies and based on the trailer for the finale, it could go either way…

Who do you think will win?

America’s Next Pasty White Chick

Reality finales aren’t usually nearly as good as the regular episodes. Survivor is the worst, tons of boring stuff, and not much of the plotting and deceiving that Survivor usually provides. Big Brother is just the reunion show combined with a clip show, and The Apprentice is just a Trump love fest. ANTM wasn’t too bad, comparatively, but they sure did a poor job with the suspense. I think it was easy to tell from both the editing and the things Tyra and the rest of the judges were saying that Nicole was going to win.

The other side of the coin is that it sure is hard to pick who is going to win this show from the onset. I cheated and picked three girls, and I was wrong about all three of them. Who would have ever guessed that the dorky near-albino pasty girl would blossom into the obvious choice to win by the last few episodes. I still think that Lisa was a better model, but I don’t blame the producers for picking Nicole and avoiding the bad publicity that Lisa’s trouble making would have been sure to generate.

For anyone who watches this show on a regular basis, I’d highly recommend watching Project Runway. It’s on Bravo at 9pm on Wednesdays, and it repeats frequently throughout the week. The show has a group of models competing against each other, but that is secondary to the clothes designers who are competing. I liked the first season WAY better than The Cut, and quite a bit better than this season of ANTM.

Project Runway 2 Drama Begins Tonight

Season 2 of Bravo’s reality TV show airs tonight, December 7th, at 10:00 p.m. Set the DVR or the VCR to record. Or, better yet, it’s too cold to do anything outdoors, why not grab a cocktail and watch the drama heat heat up as 16 fashion designers vie for the top prize. The show’s tag line is “They sew…She Cuts”, referring to the show’s host, super-model, Heidi Klum.

Check out the preview at Bravo.

Who do you think will win ‘Survivor’?

We’ve not spent much time on ‘Survivor’ in Reality Bytes, and I can’t figure out why. There’s been lots to talk about. I can’t imagine Guatemala showing up on a lot of tour itineraries, given the heat, the crocs, the bugs, the snakes…

But these guys have been more dangerous than all of them. Backstabbing, lying, it’s been a great ride. But Thursday (Dec. 8), we see who makes it to the final four, then Sunday we have the grand conclusion.

Can’t say I was sorry to see Judd go. In fact, I can’t figure out why he stayed around past the merge. As former ‘Survivor’ champ Ethan said about Judd on the CBS ‘Survivor’ blog, “Don’t say that stuff outside your head. But we all know Judd has trouble keeping stuff inside … including alcohol.”

But I digress. Who do you think will be this season’s final Survivor? Who do you want to win? Who do you think was most unfairly booted?

The sisters implode on ‘Amazing Race’

One thing I find interesting about the so-called reality shows: So often individuals or teams beat themselves. Tuesday night on The Amazing Race it was the Godlewski sisters, who started out kind of quirky and fun but by the end were about ready to strangle each other.

A few weeks ago it was the Weavers, who were the first team I can remember who were disappointed that they finished last in a non-elimination round.

Now it’s time for the grand finale. Your comments make it clear you are rooting for the Linz folks. Earlier I thought the Bransens were dark horses to win, but CBS’ previews make it look like dad melts down in the finals. Of course, we know how they like to lead you the wrong way.

So we’ve got a team we love to hate (some of us anyway), a team so goofy you can’t help but smile (Ohio’s Linz sibs) and dad and daughters, who fall somewhere in the middle.

For now, check the Godlewskis’ final words.

Donald Fires Two Apprentices in Tearful Boardroom

Donald fires two Apprentices in tearful boardroom in near catfight. In this week’s Apprentice 4 (Dec. 1) Felisha & Alla were both fired after failing to win the task to create in infomercial for Microsoft’s LiveMeeting.

The tension was thick in the boardroom as Felisha & Alla fought for their survival to the end. However, a breakdown by Felisha and Alla’s relentless pursuit left no choice for the Donald but to send both candidates packing.

I would have loved to be in the cab on the way to wherever the cab takes the losers to after the boardroom. I’m pretty sure if the cameras had not been there, we would have been reading about the drama in the NY Post’s page six!

With Felisha & Alla gone, that leaves just Randall and Rebecca to win the Apprentice 4.

In usual fashion, the final task is sure to be filled with Drama when one candidates star cancels and the weather threatens the others plans for charity events.

Who will be the Apprentice 4, Rebecca of Randall? What do you think?
