American Idol song choice lacking with the girls tonight.

In past seasons I never really understood the whole song choice obsession with the judges, but I felt it tonight. A bit of advice Idols, don’t choose songs because you love them; choose songs the audience will love.

I am a huge fan of Katharine McPhee, but how boring was that? I didn’t recognize the song and I’m pretty sure that anyone under the age of 30 didn’t either. Yes, you can assume I’m under 30, I just won’t tell you if you’re right or wrong.

Kinnik Sky. Not a fan, did nothing for me. She’s gone.

Do they choose their own clothes each week? If so, Lisa Tucker needed an intervention tonight. Her outfit did not match the song and as strange as it sounds I honestly think it distracted me. When I ran it back and closed my eyes, she had a couple off notes, but overall, not too bad.

Sultry voice, perfect song choice and an outfit just tight and revealing enough to say “and I look hot too! Melissa McGhee was great and I imagine most of the male viewers would agree. Ace…stop that smiling at her!

Heather Cox hit a couple notes that were waaaaaay off and I watched the faces of the other girls to see if any of them grimaced as I did. She could go away this week and I wouldn’t be unhappy at all.

I was excited when I heard that Brenna Gethers was going to do Last Dance by Donna Summers. I thought this would finally silence her critics. As someone who remembers dancing to this at high school (okay, I’m a few days older than 30) I was disappointed that she didn’t even exude the enthusiasm that we used to feel when it came on in the car.

There’s no doubt that Paris Bennett has a voice. I just want to see her act her age and have more fun. In prior seasons Paris, people have been eliminated for this. Listen to the judges, not Mom and Grandma sittin’ in the audience!

Ayla Brown. Everyone wants me to love her but I just can’t quite get there. She did okay and didn’t hit too many bad notes but I didn’t feel it, just too mechanical. Nice, but not great. Simon hit the nail on the head.

Who doesn’t just love Kellie Pickler? So cute. But please, don’t do another Bonnie Raitt song sweetie.

Did anyone else notice that Mandisa dropped her last name? Wonder what that’s all about? I love her, I love her voice, but this was not her best night.

Favorite performances tonight were smoking hot Melissa and Lisa with a bad wardrobe choice.

So folks, who goes on Thursday? I predict Brenna, Kinnik, or Heather. And girls, girls, girls, you’ve got to bring it next week. Overall, not a super memorable performance in the bunch.

I cannot imagine that the guys cannot improve on this!

I’m not with you all on Pickler. I think she’s adorable. No, she’s not the best, but her personality makes up for it for me :) Overall - the girl’s night was terrible… Go guys!

I agree with you Kim - see my post?

Kim - I’m starting to get on your bandwagon about the Kellie issue. I haven’t really been impressed with her since her very first audition. I don’t know - maybe she’ll come out of her shell - but, if she doesn’t start “performing”, I don’t think she’ll last. She needs to get rid of the deer in the headlights look when she sings!

Tee hee - well Kelle - let’s just say I’m not known for my brevity - ha ha! Get me all excited about something and I DO tend to go on! C’mon people - is there NO ONE out there who agrees with me that Kellie is a sour Pickles???

Nope - I don’t like her either. She is cute, yes, but she doesn’t sing very well. They’re pushing her like Carrie Underwood, but she’s nowhere close.

KIM, you tryin’ to steal my blog job? You had me in stitches while I read this. You very well may be the only person in America who doesn’t like Kellie Pickler. Any others out there brave enough to speak up?

We definitely agree on one thing - last night’s show was a real snoozer. As I sat watching it, I found myself wondering if we HAVE to keep 6 girl finalists - can we PLEASE ditch more of them to keep more guys??? For my viewing - and listening - pleasure, “the guys have it” this season. I am a critic of Brenna and I’m definitely not silenced after last night - YAWN. The vocals left much to be desired - and can her smile possibly get any more cheesy and unnatural? She did have a spark - but I have yet to see it ignite into a flame. And who isn’t a fan of Carrie Un…I mean, Kellie Pickler? That would be me. Maybe I’m alone in this, but I don’t think the pop world needs another bleached blonde airhead stereotype. I’d like to see her fall off those shoes, off the stage and off the show before I hurl. I do like Paris, Katherine and Mandisa, but agree that their song choices left much to be desired last night. Paris has so much potential - where is her youth??? Let it come out! Show us that youthful exuberance that we have glimpsed - you are young and fresh and powerful - use it! Katherine - please darling - you’ve got it going on - but we have to be able to stay awake during your songs to appreciate your talent. And Mandisa - tee hee - what IS up with the one name thing? What will she be next week - “Queen Mandisa”? I love this gal, but I have to - gasp - agree with Simon that she went a little too cabaret last night in her song choice and wardrobe. You’re not a 40 year performing on a cruise ship, sweetie - let that big girl beauty shine and show us that soul that you have in such abundance. Make us feel it - you can do it. Those are my favorites and all the rest of them can go as far as I’m concerned. I agree that Kinnick will be on the block soon - she really isn’t getting the job done. I hope to see my top 3 returning next week and taking the judges advice to heart. Ladies - you need to raise the bar or the guys are going to leave you in the dust!

I thought the exact same thing about Lisa, that shirt was just much too cheery for the song she was singing. I just couldn’t believe that a person wearing that shirt could be feeling the feelings expressed in that song. I couldn’t believe no judge called her on it. All-in-all I thought it was a night where last week’s frontrunners came back to join the rest of the pack. Paris and Katherine just didn’t come through this week and it gave Melissa and Ayla a chance to stand out. I think Heather in the most danger come Thursday with Kinnik running close behind.

The first thing I have to say about last night was - HO HUM! I kept waiting and waiting for SOMEBODY to blow me away and it just didn’t happen. Not even my favorites. I think to go this week will be Brenna (I hope!) and Heather - who I don’t think has a strong enough voice. I’m stickin’ with my faves though - Katharine, Lisa and yes, Kelle - Ayla - who I actually thought did pretty well last night. Let’s hope the guys are more exciting tonight. (We do have Ace, afterall!)
