Why did MTV allow Paula on ‘Real World’?
The show that launched the reality TV genre in the United States has pushed the envelope again.
The Real World keeps grinding on season after season by throwing together beautiful, self-involved, dysfunctional young adults into pimped-out pads and watch the tears, bear and emotional train wrecks. Former housemates have had to deal with alcohol abuse, AIDs and a whole lot of unresolved anger.
This season, in Key West, however, it’s gone a step farther. Paula Meronek had self-esteem issues from the very start, and it didn’t take long for the housemates to see she had an eating disorder.
The Associated Press’ Jay Cohen addresses the issue and the ethics involved, along with providing some warning signs. Read the story and tell what you think. Is MTV being irresponsible this time, or is the show merely raising awareness about an important issue?
The show’s on at 10 p.m. Tuesdays.

I know MTV and the shows producers put Paula on the show to add more drama. It’s very obvious from her appearance that she has problems. She doesn’t fit in with the rest of the cast.
