‘American Idol’s’ bottom three shocker!
Ryan Seacrest said the entire country was buzzing about last night’s show, and based on the number of news articles flying around cyberspace, he was correct.
That buzz also overtook us Idol fans at home. We had 2,785 votes on our DaytonDailyNews.com Idol polls. That’s 1,109 more votes than any other week! Looks like we were completely correct about Ace and totally off base with a couple of others.
Our results…
Favorite:
Katharine McPhee 31%
Chris Daughtry 28%
Taylor Hicks 20%
Paris Bennett 7%
Kellie Pickler 6%
Elliott Yamin 6%
Ace Young 4%
Who we wanted off:
Ace Young 36%
Kellie Pickler 30%
Paris Bennett 13%
Elliott Yamin 11%
Taylor Hicks 4%
Katharine McPhee 3%
Chris Daughtry 2%
Blow by blow recap… For those who couldn’t watch, after Rod Stewart performed they separated the finalists into two groups.
Elliot, Kellie, Katharine
Chris, Paris, Ace
That left Taylor. Ryan announced he was safe. Then he did one of the cruelest things I’ve seen on Idol. Ryan asked Taylor to join which group he thought was safe. Break for commercial. Ahhhhhhhhhhh.
Oh my God! The group in the bottom three was Chris, Paris, and Ace. Taylor, by the way, chose correctly.
Paris is safe. Chris is safe. Ace goes home. Not a huge surprise. I think he knew when he was left standing on the stage alone with Chris. He didn’t seem that shocked.
I’m more stunned that Chris was in the bottom three. Wow. I think Chris got a little dose of reality tonight. You never know what can happen with the votes. I cannot believe Kellie Pickler got more votes than Chris. Quite frankly, I can’t believe Elliot got more votes than Chris.
I’m in shock and apparently, fellow bloggers Durke and James, we are all underestimating Paris!
On a wonderful, hard to believe, note…next week Andréa Bocelli and the greatest love songs of all time. If you have never heard this unbelievably gifted tenor, you are in for a treat. For my work friends who regularly read this blog, let me know and I can lend you some of his music. Never had I listened to music in Italian before I heard Andréa. I had never listened to any tenor before I heard him. I never had any desire to before I heard him. I don’t care what language he sings in…his voice unsuspectingly permeates you and carries you away.
The last few weeks this show keeps getting better and better and I can forsee that happening again. But why, oh why, America couldn’t you have kept Ace around just long enough to sing the love songs with Andréa Bocelli?

Hi Kelle, and any others interested in the singing techniques: Rosanne Simunovic has finally posted her AI Masterclass critique of this past week’s AI vocals here: http://www.timminsyouthsingers.com/AI5VocalMasterclass7.ivnu … I find it interesting that Rosanne essentially agrees with Kelle when mentions that she expects to see Katharine on Broadway someday!!!

I HATE IT WHEN ANYONE GETS VOTED OFF EVEN THE ONES I TOTALY DISLIKE IT IS SAD. I HATED TO SEE ACE GO HE WASN’T THE BEST SINGER BUT HE HAD HIS MOMENTES WHEN HE HAD THE RIGHT SONG. I LOVE CHRIS BUT HAVE NOT AGREED WITH HIS SONG CHOICE LATELY, BUT HE CHOOSES DIFFERENT BECAUSE HE IS DIFFERENT. I LOVED KATHERYN IN THE BEGINNING SHE IS FANTASTIC BUT NO MATTER WHAT SHE SINGS IT ALL SOUNDS THE SAME, SHE JUST ALWAYS SINGS NO MATTER WHAT SONG THE SAME WAY. I LIKE KELLY BUT SHE DID BUTCHER IT THIS WEEK I DON’T LIKE ELLIOT I FEEL BAD BUT I JUST DON’T TAYLOR IS VERY ENTERTAINING (LOOKS LIKE GEORGE CLOONEY, JAY LENO COMBINED) TOP 4 I PREDICT KATHERN, KELLY, CHRIS TAYLOR. i DON’T LIKE PARIS AT ALL SHE CAN SING BUT I GET TIRED OF SEEING HER FAMOUS FAMILY ALWAYS CRYING. I LIKED LISA MUCH MORE THAN HER. I GREW UP IN DAYTON AND NOW LIVE IN TAMPA SO I WISH OUR TAMPA GIRL WOULD OF WENT FARTHER BUT HEY YA HAVE TO REMEMBER THE WORDS TO THE SONG YOU ARE SINGING. OK THAT IS MY OPINION AND STICKING TO IT. HOW I WISH I COULD HAVE A CASANO’S PIZZA AND MIKESELLS POTATOE CHIPS CAN’T GET THEM HERE (MAYBE SOME ESTER PRICE CANDY 2) NEXT TIME YA ARE EATING IT THINK OF THEIS DAYTON/SLASH TAMPA GIRL. MAY THE BEST MAN WIN (CHRIS)

I agree with everyone on the Kellie Picker thing. She should of gone home, She did terrible! And her little dumb act that she does is annoying, and is getting very old. But the things about Chris, i have to say i disagree. I am a BIG fan of Chris, even though he hasn’t rocked out in awhile he still has my vote!

i just don’t get the pickler thing. i think the phone bank thing should be outlawed, somehow. maybe her hometown’s doing it so she NEVER comes home….that would explain a lot!

Kellie Pickler absolutely does not deserve to be in the final 6, but I predict she’s not going anywhere anytime soon. (Sigh.) I’m feeling rather disheartened about the AI voting method. First there’s VoteForTheWorst and DialIdol. Now, Kellie’s hometown has set up a CTC Wireless “Pick Pickler” phone bank which allows people to text-message multiple votes for FREE. Last week they posted over 11,000 votes for Kellie through the phone bank! When I call, I usually only get through a few times. My 6 piddly votes aren’t doing much against these other high-tech ways of slanting the voting process. It’s all a scam, I tell you, a terrible scam! :) And yet, will I vote next week? You Betcha!! OK, but on the other hand, 19Entertainment deserves what it gets. If they have to market phoney dumb-blond-act Kellie Pickler after this is over, so be it. I absolutely adore Katharine, and I hope she stays on AI for several more weeks, but I don’t want her to win it all! She is too classy to put up with the cheesiness of 19E.

I think if Kellie wins this thing after a performance like last night, I am seriously going to give up on Idol. It’s ridiculous… she was horrible. I say those of us that are paying attention need to start sending dozens of votes for all five of the other finalists. Give votefortheworst a run for its money.

Well, I wasn’t shocked about Ace. It was his time! As the weeks go by, every week someone good will go home, that’s the game. My husband says that Kellie will be there until the end, even though she’s obviously not the most talented. Look at Britney Spears….doesn’t sing particularly well (in my opinion) but appealed to the young crowd, both male and female. I personally think her dumb hick routine is wearing thin, but I’m only one person. I was not totally shocked to see Chris in the bottom three. He’s a great rocker, and his performance Tuesday was awesome for him, but his voice is not really very appealing. He needs to lose some of the vibrato in his voice (as I’ve stated before). Kelle, I’m with you on Paris. She has talent, but for some reason she’s very forgettable to me. I can’t put my finger on it just yet, but regardless, someone will sign her.

Well, I can’t say that I was totally upset about Ace leaving, but I am ticked that he left before Kellie did. Or anyone leaves before her, for that matter! America, get your heads out of the sand and get rid of her! I wasn’t surprised that Paris and Ace were in the bottom three, but I did kind of chuckle when Chris was placed there too. I think you’re right, Kelle - he had to have gotten a dose of reality. And Kim - I’ve been getting bored with him too! Next week should prove to be very interesting! (And about the Taylor situation - I remember them doing that in seasons past and thinking how cruel that was!)

Paris fans…I have taken a virtual beating over my lack of support, or rather unenthusiastic support, of Paris. She has natural ability and the training of a supportive musical family. I’ve said it before, there’s no doubt the girl has a set of pipes. AND I will concede that she can adapt to almost any musical style. For that reason, she may be better on a Broadway stage, like I believe Katharine is, than an American Idol. No matter how hard I try, I just can’t see her making it to the end of this thing. If she does, I’ll eat my words.

Beth, I don’t think you are in the minority regarding Kellie among our blogsters. Well, at least the vocal ones. We have a couple die hard Kellie fans, but most comments are similar to yours. She’s great at the country stuff, but honestly, not in a million years could she have competed with the talent on Nashville Star. Is it possible that the VoteForTheWorst.com bunch is really responsible for keeping Kellie around this long? Who knows?

I may be in the minority, but I would rather have seen Kellie leave tonight. She is very good, but seems unable to sing anything that doesn’t sound “country”. Even the old standard she chose had a twang to it. That is her natural voice, I know, but diction lessons are in order here. I hated to see Ace go. He is not the best vocalist there, & he would probably have gone next week, if not now, but he was HOT last night! I liked how he adapted his look to the music. They all looked really great, tho’. Someone said Paris does impressions, & I see what she means, but the girl can adapt herself to any genre so far & that gets points from me. She really had the jazz thing down! It’s a hard call for the finals, anything could happen. That was proven tonight with Chris. Stay tuned!

Ok. I was shocked and not so shocked. Shocked that Kellie didn’t land in the bottom three. Maybe she’s found her niche with America’s sympathy vote. I’m not really shocked to find Chris in the bottom three. I thought he deserved to be there. Get him away from heavy rock metal and he’s completely out of his element. I dare say he probably won’t fare much better next week with the greatest love songs. I agree with the others in that we underestimate Paris. I’ve been a Paris fan since the beginning. While she doesn’t have much of a style of her own, for such a young girl to adapt to so many different musical styles and artists is a talent in and of itself. And to top it off she can really sing. I would have liked to have seen Ace hang around for just another week or so. I think he would have done well with a love song. Poor Elliot. I do feel bad for him. I really do like his vocals but his personality hasn’t developed and he doesn’t seem to have made a connection with the voting public. I think he’s losing confidence in himself and it shows. Hopefully his star will shine next week.

Okay - it was absolutely RIDICULOUS that Kellie was not in that bottom three - she had the hands down WORST performance I’ve seen in weeks - by anyone. What a JOKE. Whatever. I am so incredibly disillusioned. Anyway, I can’t say I’m terribly surprised at Ace going - he’s been on the brink for awhile, but he sure wasn’t the worst this week. I am also probably not as surprised as most that Chris was there - I have been saying that he is getting boring. I didn’t get to see him last night, but the little snippet they showed at the end didn’t impress me - apparently it failed to impress many. But the burning question in my mind is - why didn’t the judges speak up and say how badly Kellie sucked like they would anyone else??? I don’t get it! If it weren’t for my ardent affection for Taylor, then I’d be turning this show off right now - for good.
