‘AI’ Chris Daughtry conspiracy theories abound

Conspiracy theory #1

It’s all Paula’s fault. She recently admitted to Teen People Magazine that she would like American to wake up and see Elliot’s talent and that she would really like to see him win. Yes Paula, we’ve all seen your teary support of Elliot and we all know that he “moves” you. Then on Elvis night after Chris’ performance of Suspicious Minds she unemotionally told him, “See you in the finals.â€? The theory is that Paula knew the affect this statement would have on the voters. They would think Chris was safe and vote for another contestant. Even Chris himself has given theory a nod in a recent conference call telling reporters “it didn’t work to my advantage.â€?

Conspiracy theory #2

Reality TV Magazine uncovered another more sinister possibility. Fox didn’t want an all male final three so they manipulated the vote to assure that Katharine stayed in.

Conspiracy theory #3

In an effort to reassure America that the winner is not predetermined, they got rid of Chris. If that’s not ludicrous enough, still others say that Idol creators were grooming him all along, all season, fully planning on pulling the rug out from under him near the end. All in an effort to show that the show is not a set-up. But if this were true, is this not a set-up in itself?

Conspiracy theory #4

The most prevalent rumor still remains that one of the phone lines for Chris had Katharine’s greeting on it. This caused one of two things to happen. Those votes were actually credited to Kat or people stopped voting for Chris fearing their votes would go to Kat. According to Fox and the Idol producers this did not happen. Apparently they immediately confirmed with AT & T and the independent company that oversees voting that there were no issues with the phone lines Tuesday night.

Conspiracy theory #5

Perhaps the strangest of all theories quotes New York disc jockey Maria Milito as saying that “an anonymous source” reported that Daughtry had been eliminated by the American Idol producers, not the votes. Milito said on Countdown with Keith Olbermann that Daughtry stated on his MySpace page that his band already had a current record contract, which of course is a very, very bad thing according to the rules of American Idol. Fox has responded by saying that Daughtry does not have a MySpace page.

Who knows what actually happened. I subscribe to the Occam’s Razor theory here. The principle states that “Entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily.” In other words, all things being equal, the simplest explanation is probably the correct one. I think people thought Chris was safe and either didn’t vote for him at all or spread their votes around more than usual.

Check back Tuesday for a preview of this week’s show. I often say that anything can happen on this show, but now we know ANYTHING can happen on this show and I can’t wait.

Kelle, Here are some spoilers for Tues night: The Judges song choices: Randy Jackson chose for Taylor Hicks: “You are so Beautiful” by Joe Cocker. Paula Abdul chose for Elliott Yamin: “What You Won’t Do For Love” by Bobby Caldwell. Simon Cowell chose for Katharine McPhee: “Over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland. Taylor Hicks - “Try a Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding for his personal song choice.

Yes, it’s amazing how you didn’t hear anything about ANYONE having any problems voting until after the results were revealed. I guess if Elliott or Kat had been voted off, it would have been OK with everyone and we probably wouldn’t have heard anything about it. What’s up with people? Chris is OK, but pleazzzzze, he’s not the best I’ve ever heard, and I hated all the screaming. At least now my ears have stopped bleeding. Now if we could just stop all the whining, life would go back to normal. Kudos to the remaining 3 for having to listen to all this tripe. I’m sure they all feel about 2 feet tall next to the enormous shadow that Chris (or Chris’ fans) have casted over them. You’d think he was the 2nd coming or something. He is only missing the T….hmmmmmm. Maybe I’m on to something. Another daVinci’s code perhaps!

I agree with Laura. Also, Fox and AT&T DID look into the voting situation, and could not find anything wrong. This statement was also released: The “independent voting company that oversees the voting has confirmed that there were no issues with the phone lines after Tuesday’s show.”

Jeanne, if that’s the case, why didn’t these complaints start until AFTER Chris got voted out? Wouldn’t they have surfaced immediately?

Fox may deny that there was anything wrong with the ‘phones but read the thousands - yes, thousands! - of e-mails which describe in detail the problems encountered in voting for Chris. That many people can’t all be wrong. But let’s face it. Is a company like Fox going to admit vote-tampering?

How about this theory! HE LOST, PLAIN AND SIMPLE! Geesh. He’d been in the bottom two or three previously, so it’s not hard to see that as many people that may have loved him, there were just as many people that didn’t. Get over it! Believe it or not, life does go on…..

Lordy. Is Oliver Stone about to make an AI movie or what? These theories range from improbable to downright ridiculous. If Paula was part of a conspiracy, why was she bawling her eyes out Wednesday? If the producers didn’t want an an all-male finale, why did Simon, who markets the acts, look like somone just told him he wasn’t allowed to make snarky commnents anymore? If this theory is true, wouldn’t it be MORE of a fix if Chris actually stayed? Maybe there was a glitch, maybe there wasn’t. But did you hear Kat’s voice and maybe the vote got credited to Chris anyway? Who knows? I don’t even know where to start. All in all, people need to get over it, and fast. They’re acting like they shot Chris in the head and had his corpse drawn and quartered. Chris will land some sort of deal whether he takes the Fuel job or not. And the memory of this incident will help his promotion. As for those who say “I’m done with AI!” I say “Whatever. You’ll all come cralwing back.”
