So they think they can dance?

When I watch American Idol I think that no one could humiliate themselves more than these so called singers. I am wrong. Some of these dancers are out of their minds and some I’m sure just want on TV.

Tonight from the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, judges Nigel Lithgow (producer), Brian Friedman (hip hop and jazz choreographer) and screaming Mary Murphy (several championship titles in ballroom) had their share of nut cases.

The show opened with several losers that I cannot believe even tried out. An American Idol reject, stalker face tap dancer Courtney who was just scary scary. And one of the worst was ballet dancer John Arviso who was incredibly awful for someone who should be amazing. Icky.

Then there were some shining stars that I can’t wait to see dance more.

Although the diamond stud in her upper lip was terribly distracting, Donyelle Jones from Studio City, CA was fabulous.

One of my favorites was the son of the King of Swing, Benji Schwimmer. He was wonderful and I loved his facial expressions even though the judges didn’t.

Then the Six Step Crew was back with Ryan Conferido, one of the crew that made it to the finals last year, along for support. It’s tough, but after the choreographed number only two move on to Vegas. Will Hawk and Chris follow in Ryan’s footsteps? I can’t wait to find out.

Another favorite of the evening was sweet little baby face Ivan. He looked more like a clumsy kid than a dancer. I was shocked when he started dancing. Then to hear he can also dance jazz, ballroom, and more? Wow.

And another heart warming story, Henry Graham, who is one part of a family comprised of adopted foster kids, was probably one of the most inspirational dancers of the evening.

Good night of dancing! Tomorrow night they are in Chicago…I hope there are as many great dancers with neat stories. I’m a sucker for those heartwarming personal stories. Aren’t you?

Being a dance lover, when I turned on this show, I was expecting to see some talent. I did. But I also saw far too much non-talent. The producers seemed to want to showcase an awful lot of awful, just to get nasty comments from the judges, because, it seems, that’s what gets the TV ratings. I got so annoyed with this, plus the fact they really were not showcasing very much real talent, that I finally turned off the tube. Maybe I’ll start watching again when all the real dancers are picked and start competing. Another thing I’ve noticed about these types of shows, and I also saw a very raw rendition of it in the commercials for the show Hell’s Kitchen, is that the judges are becoming downright abusive. Yes, that’s right, ABUSIVE! To be yelled at, called names, and put down on national television, (or anywhere for that matter) is abuse. To have things thrown in your face after someone is screaming at you (Hell’s Kitchen) in the real world, can get the offender arrested for battery. Is this the trend in reality shows now? Who needs it. Don’t an awful lot of folks put up with that in real life to begin with?
