Best and worst of 2007 ‘American Idol’ auditions.
Yeah, the last night of auditions before Hollywood. I’m so over these shows but next week it really starts to get good and I cannot wait!
On the Paula front it was apparent to me that in some of these clips she was glassy eyed and acting just ridiculous. I think there is no doubt that she was either on something or drunk some, or most, of the time. Oh yeah, she’s a really mean drunk too.
To correct the headline, tonight wasn’t really the best and worst of 2007…it was more like a bunch of stuff that wasn’t good enough or bad enough to make the previous shows. However, I did discover a couple kids that I’ll be anxious to see through the next rounds.
Crista Fassino bases her outfit on how she feels each day. So how does she feel if she is wearing red netting? It’s something you find on a craft project, not an outfit. She seemed to be feeling very confident that day singing her heart out a song that no one could understand.
Tami Gosnell was different. Kind of a throw back to the folksy, hippy era with a fabulous voice and even though she wasn’t conventionally beautiful, Simon loved her and she left with a golden ticket.
Paul Kim wanted a chance to prove that there are talented Asians in the world and he did prove it. Wow. What came out of his mouth was unexpected for me but oh so wonderful. Paula said his voice was “smoky” and I agree with that assessment. He was amazing and I can’t wait until Hollywood to see how he does.
I never really knew that so many come back to audition season after season but they did a little montage about all the folks that have been there before. Gina Glocksen was one that they remembered from a previous season. Fawning over Simon didn’t keep her from belting out a great audition. Not as strong as some of the others; in fact I doubt she makes it through Hollywood, but she got to hug Simon. Kudos to all of them for their persistence.
How ridiculous is it to audition in a group. Heather Renne was one of the three Frisco and she sounded better than I expected, but not awesome. I then expected the other two to stink but Ashley Cleland was a little better than Heather. Then Ebony Jointer blew them both away. In a grueling judging of the three two of them go on to Hollywood. Oh, how awful to be Heather. Poor girl. But Ebony was beautiful and just outstanding!
Before a humorous barrage of awful dancers, composer and singer “WES” took the yucky cake for the evening. In fact he looked to me a little like a scary cult leader.
Alexander Nazario touched my heart. He practices his singing three hours a day and is very dedicated to his dancing and singing. He was very sincere and wanted the judges opinion. They gave him an honest opinion and he took it well because he wanted them to be honest with him. These judges were honest but respectful and kind. I’ll bet they are like that more than we see. America just likes the meanness. Unfortunately few people actually admit it.
Lakisha Jones was looking for a new start for herself and her three year old daughter. I instantly liked her during her interview that I was routing for her. She sang an Aretha Franklin song and I was worried when she said it but again, as soon as she opened her mouth I understood why she said that she felt her voice was a gift instead of a talent. She was a hec of a performer as well. I love her.
Honestly, I was so worried early in the season that we weren’t going to get as many talented folks as last year, but honestly now I’m wondering if this crew may end up being better. I guess only time will tell. We get to witness probably one of the most grueling weeks these kids will ever have. So the field will be narrowed from 172 to 12 girls and 12 guys. Next week is Hollywood week baby!!
Don’t forget to vote for your favorite Online Idol. Your vote counts for someone possibly in your neighborhood. Also remember if you have a favorite, you can vote once an hour. Honestly, my favorite is not in the top two and I think that’s nuts so believe me, I’m voting every time I remember!!! Vote Here Now!

Well, once again, I didn’t get to see most of the show due to my dear husband. But, I did see Paul Kim and thought he was awesome. I’m so excited that Hollywood starts next week. This is when it really gets good. Can’t wait to pick a favorite and see if they can make it through!
