All kinds of surprises on ‘American Idol’ tonight!

Let me start by saying that this was a very emotional two hours for me tonight. I know that was the intent and I sincerely hope that many other American Idol fans were motivated to donate to Idol Gives Back.

In the spirit of charity, and for those who don’t want a blow by blow account of tonight, let me tell you what Ryan Seacrest touted all show as the “most shocking result in our history.” Then you can join my recap of the show if you would like.

They boil it down to Jordin and Chris remaining. Now Ryan made a point of saying that the results were being presented completely in no particular order. Now, the last two are standing and Ryan tells Chris he’s safe. NOOOOOOOOO! But then he says Jordin is safe as well. For the first time ever they are going to send no one home tonight. But next week they will add last night’s votes to next week’s votes and send home the bottom two. So that was the big surprise that made me nuts all night thinking one of my favorites was going home. Now join me if you would like for the “rest of the story.”

Okay, so who does the internet say is going home tonight? According to DialIdol.com Chris Richardson will depart tonight and the other two of the bottom three will be Melinda and Blake. Those are also my bottom three.

According to our own DDN.com American Idol Poll we hail Jordin as the best of the bunch last night and we want LaKisha going home. It will be very interesting to see how things turn out tonight.

After screwing up the introduction, Ryan Seacrest showed a little frustration to me, did he you too? They have the most shocking result ever in the history of the show. What, is Melinda going home?

Over 70,000,000 votes and that’s a world record and oh yeah, they did raise the 5 million dollars! AND all the money raised tonight will help the kids right here in the U.S. Pretty cool.

We start out with Ellen DeGeneres at Concert Hall and Earth, Wind and Fire. Wow, do they sound as good as ever? The beautiful full orchestra helped but they are still pretty amazing singing a medley of their hits including Boogey Wonderland. Doesn’t that long haired guy who plays the base guitar looks exactly the same?

I was shocked to see how bad parts of New Orleans still are after Hurricane Katrina. Two years later people are still living in the temporary housing built right after the disaster. I can’t help but tear up at the sweet faces of the children living in such poverty in our own country. Wow.

So Quincy Jones (who wrote We Are the World) wrote a song especially for tonight entitled Time to Care for the American Idols. I loved this song and the African beat and flavor. I really hope they release it as a single. Quincy was so cute directing the band and dancin’ at his podium.

I’m watching the six remaining contestants singing and I’m shocked that there are three girls and three guys. At the beginning of the season I would have guessed it would be by far more women than men.

All the stars that asked for donations were cool. I loved what Eric McCormick said “If every person who ever voted for Sanjaya just gave $1 we could do so much good.” Very funny. Then Ben Stiller came on and was silly, as Stiller is. I’m not a huge fan of his so forgive my lack of enthusiasm.

They showed more footage of Ryan and Simon in Africa and it was heartbreaking. Seeing the two little boys living on their own in a one room place. There are over 50,000 orphans in the area that they were in. It takes so little money, just $16 a month to educate one of these unfortunate children.

Terri Hatcher looked kind of like a floozy during her plea for money. I had a stronger word but it’s not appropriate for a blog my 14 year old niece reads!

In random order Ryan announces that Melinda is safe. Now that would have been the biggest shocker ever for me. So that leaves…..Blake? Oh darn, now we have to wait, ARGH!

Now performing There’s A Place for Us, Il Divo. As a huge music fan I cannot believe this is the first time I’ve heard or seen them perform. This was beautiful. My husband even came in from the other room to ask who was singing. Now that’s really something.

Oops. I just accidentally pasted this Idol stuff in a post that was meant for my online class on Organizational Behavior. So I apologize in advance if you start reading things about culture, diversity, ethics, etc.

Jack Black sings A Kiss From a Rose by Seal to get judged by the best. The funny thing is that he can really sing when he’s not goofing off. The little diatribe they all did with Black and Seal was cute.

Now back to the contestants…more results…

Blake is safe. Okay now this is ridiculous. Blake would have been the second biggest surprise. So now I would guess, LaKisha but I don’t think it would be the biggest surprise ever. Biggest surprise would be Jordin. NO, NO, that better not be it.

Carry Underwood went to Africa to visit and recorded an exclusive version of I’ll Stand by You available to download at iTunes with all proceeds going to several charities. When it comes to Carrie Underwood…I’ve grown fonder and fonder of her ever since she won. I was so glad she did but I am now starving for a new album from her. You bet I’ll be downloading this song after the show tonight.

Rascal Flats performs next. The lead singer has such a unique voice and he’s so country but I am just drawn to them. By the way Simon, here’s someone with a very nasal voice who has been unbelievably successful anyway. My Wish is what the song is called I believe that they sang. Does anyone out there know the other time that they were on American Idol? Didn’t know I was going to quiz you tonight did you? : )

Tom Anderson, the cofounder of MySpace, was there as Ryan announced that ½ of the money they raise tonight is staying in this country. Just too amazing. I’ve been to the area of Kentucky that they visited and it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth and it’s so sad that there is so much illiteracy there.

So was Paula mistaken about the time slot of this show? It’s 8:00 p.m. not after midnight. Oh my goodness was her outfit tacky, and sleazy, and disappointing. Her top showed more of her than not and she just looked silly. She also looked like she came straight from getting her lips plumped up. So silly.

The Stayin’ Alive video with all the lip-synching stars can be downloaded exclusively on iTunes as well with the proceeds going to charity. I laughed through most of the video. I couldn’t even begin to list everyone who was in it but please let me say that David Schwimmer can actually dance!

I was incredibly touched by Josh Grobin’s performance of You Raise Me Up backed by the African Children’s Choir. I had kind of held it together until now. But looking at the faces of those children and realizing that any one of them could have been in the clip from Africa that they showed just minutes before…well…

Kelly Clarkson joins the bunch tonight singing inspirational songs with Up To The Mountain. She has the greatest voice. A true American Idol success story. I have her first two albums and looking forward to her next one as well. Did she look a little chunkier to anyone else tonight? She is still gorgeous. Actually I thought she got a little too thin there for a while.

LaKisha is safe. Now we are down to Chris and Jordin. Jordin cannot leave. I will probably be angrier at that than any other Idol result ever. Maybe that is what makes tonight shocking. Is it possible there is a tie or something and no one is going home? This is driving me nuts!

Celine Dion sang a duet of I Can Dream with Elvis Presley. Of course it took some TV magic to make it happen but it was dorky but kind of neat and if you want to re-live it you can also download the video on iTunes.

Madonna added herself to the many stars that lent their celebrity to this cause tonight and did a video in Africa regarding children with Aids. Idol outdid themselves with the celebrity endorsements tonight.

At this point in the show…9:45 p.m. they have already raised 30 million dollars. Wow. I know I’m overusing the word Wow tonight but it’s simple, quick to type, and explains how I’m feeling perfectly so my apologies.

Annie Lenox sings Bridge Over Troubled Water. It was beautiful. Especially once the orchestra kicked in over the piano she was playing.

Finally, the final results. Oh no…Chris is safe. No…no…wait. Jordin is still in as well. Here’s the weird deal. Next week they will add the two weeks votes together and send home two people. Ryan said it’s a charity night so they cannot send someone home tonight. That’s cool. It will give someone another week to wow us. But two people home next week. I’m sure this is nerve wrecking.

Bono visited the Idols with an inspirational speech and then the Idols all standing in a row begin to sing American Pride I think and my DVR changes channels on me!!! ARGH and by the time I figured out that I had to cancel a recording and go back I missed it. Someone please tell me what I missed.

I don’t know about you but it’s good to be reminded about the less fortunate of us. It’s too easy to forget them about in our busy, crazy lives. I for one am proud to be an American Idol fan and I’m proud that they are putting their money where their ratings are!!!

Jordin Is the best! My family and I agree that she should win. Great vocals. She sang “Broken Wing” really good.

Help please! I would like to know the name of the school in Eastern Kentucky that was mentioned on the American Idol Special. Paula, I think, said the name but I couldn’t understand it. I would like to donate books to them ,personally, not through an organization.Thanks.

Jordin Sparks is a good singer, but come on, what’s wrong with all those people claiming she was the best of the bunch. It was pitchy and off key. It really was, it was more screaming than singing. Let’s get real here, Melinda should win for sure.

Jen, Simon wasn’t surprised that there are starving people in America, he was surprised there are such big food centers in America dedicated to feeding the poor.

The Biggest Shock of Idol was the Look on Jordin Sparks Face and that of her family when Seacreast said Chris Richardson you are safe. The dramtic pause to let Jordin know she wouldn’t be elimanted from AI also, was just cruel. http://idol-mania.com/american-idol-fan

It really was a great thing that they did last night - the charity part - not the part that made us think Jordin was going home! I felt so bad for her because it was obvious she thought she was leaving too! It was an emotional evening that’s for sure. I know that I would have been affected by it before, but as a mom, it hits home even more so. To look at those innocent kids - and the ones that didn’t make it, was just heart-wrenching. I couldn’t help but to think about my own kids and the shear turmoil I would feel if I lost any of them. UGH! I hope that AI continues to do good things like this in the future. Maybe people will notice that over a few criticisms that the judges give to some of the contestants.

Rascal Flatts was on Idol two years ago when they sang “Broken Road” with Carrie Underwood.

I was really touched last night. My boyfriend kept telling me to quit crying but it was so sad and it really makes you think about what’s really important. Here I am worrying about a job and there are kids without parents trying to survive. I felt really selfish last night. And it was an amazing show..just loved all of the performances. Especially the Stayin’ Alive..that was hilarious! This will be a show that will stick with me for a while!

Rascal Flatts did perform previously on American Idol. If memory serves me correctly the lead singer did a duet with Carrie Underwood in season 4. I remember that Carrie had performed Rascall Flats’ hit “God Bless the Broken Road”.

It was a great show, but on Tuesday when Simon went to the food center in LA he said that he didn’t even know there were starving people right here at home. That really bothered me, the fact that the rich don’t even realize that there are people in right here who have to go to food centers to get their food because they just can’t make it, I know this because I’ve been one of those people. I really did like the fact that som eof the money is going to help those in America who really need it. And I really wish Lakisha would go home.
