‘American Idol’s’ Bon Jovi night rocks!!!
Ryan opens the show with the awesome news that Idol Gives Back raised 70 million dollars last week going to people in both Africa and America. At the end of the show the President and Mrs. Bush gave their thanks to everyone who donated.
Let’s get right into it But before we do, click here and try a fun new way to vote for your favorite tonight on DDN.com. If you like the old way that’s fine, go ahead and vote that way!
Phil
Blaze of Glory. Jon Bon Jovi said Phil gave him the chills. Phil just blew me away tonight. I had hoped he would do well with a Bon Jovi song but he was incredible. A lot more emotion and feeling than the earlier weeks of the competition and I loved his jacket. Randy thought he rocked tonight and is excited for Phil. Paula thought it was the best opening they had had all season long. Simon thought it was okay and thought Phil hasn’t done enough to last another week.
Jordin
Jon Bon Jovi didn’t think he sang half that good when he was 17. Jordin sang Livin’ On a Prayer. I think she did better than the judges did. I didn’t think it was terrible like Simon did. I wondered how she would handle this genre and she admitted it was really tough for her. Pitchy but did it proud nonetheless. The judges at least acknowledged it was a tough week for her.
LaKisha
Let me say up front what in the world was she thinking wearing that red lacey thing around her waist. This Ain’t a Love Song was a soul singers song says Jon and he says she isn’t going home this week singing this song. Great song choice for LaKisha. I saw some of that spark and feistiness that I fell in love at the beginning. Randy says LaKisha is back and she blew it out of the box! Paula thinks she gave everyone a little sumpin, sumpin. Simon said he could give LaKisha a kiss and Ryan took her down to him for a kiss. He said he loved it, he loved it! And nice lips.
Blake
You Give Love a Bad Name is risky for Blake because Jon Bon Jovi says he’s taking a song a lot of people know and changing it. He says of all of them tonight, this one is rollin’ the dice. I was completely read to hate it but as he started I thought this is kind of cool. The longer into the song he got I was thinking he pulled this off. I really loved it! I applaud Blake for doing the song his way despite a heavy warning from the original artist. Randy says he will give him the award for the most original version of a song on American Idol ever. “It was hot dog.” Paula said this is his night. Simon thinks that half the audience will absolutely hate it and half will love it AND he did the absolutely the right thing!
Chris
I kind of feel bad for Chris having to follow that act of Blake’s. Wanted Dead or Alive was his choice despite the fact that Daughtry did it last year. Jon suggested he find the “blue” in the song and if he does he’ll be here next week. Wow. I was surprised he did as well as he did. I really liked this. Randy thought he made it his own and he liked the R&B twist he put on it. Paula said he did a good job. Simon thought he did as much as he possibly could with this song because it wasn’t his genre but he’s not sure if it is enough to stay on the show.
Melinda
She chose Have A Nice Day. Jon loved it! And surprisingly enough so did I. This woman can sing anything but I admit I just don’t see her selling Top 40 records. I just can’t get past that. Now several artists that have won have not been successful in that way but still had success. After all, Fantasia is on Broadway right now. Randy thought she was like a young Tina Turner, Paula babbled about something and Simon agreed with Randy and thought she was in a different league tonight.
I never would have imagined this week being so great. I’m struggling predicting who will go home tomorrow. Based on tonight, I would say Jordin is in trouble, but that would break my heart.
Wow, bottom two? I don’t dare who do ya’ll think?

Many pundits predict that due to the skew of last weeks votes, LaKisha will be voted off, irrespective of her stellar performance. If so, Simon’s generous praise will be forever known as Simon’s “kiss of death”.

I really enjoyed last night. It brings me back to when I was 16 and I went to my first concert - Bon Jovi’s Dead or Alive tour (think that’s what it was called!). Phil did great. Lakisha did great. Melinda did great. Blake was AWESOME. I absolutely loved his rendition of the song. I was not thrilled with Chris’s performance at all. And poor Jordin. I hated it the first time I listened to it. I did play it back and didn’t think it was quite as bad the second time around. I do not, however, think this one bad performance is going to get her kicked off. I really hope not. She has so much more talent than was shown last night. I think that going home tonight will be Chris and Lakisha (not based on her performance last night, but the past couple of weeks.)

Best episode of Idol ever. Jordin made a very bad decision. Jon warned her the song was hard to sing and he ought to know. She should have altered the arrangement or picked a better song. They have nearly 25 years worth of material to choose from. LaKisha shouldn’t go home based on that performance, but I worry last week will do her in. Chris Richardson also made a bad decision inviting comparison to the original and the most successful Idol from last year. Phil was fantastic. Melinda was incredible. Blake stole the show. He should make that song into a single. It would be a hit for him. Bottom based on last night should be Chris and Jordin. Taking into account last week: Chris and Lakisha.

Last night was a much better show than I expected it to be. Phil, Blake, LaKisha and Melinda blew me away. I thought Chris and Jordin were really weak. Ordinarily, I would think they are gone. But added to last week (when probably a lot more people voted than this week), I would expect Chris to go, with maybe LaKisha. That said, I wasn’t at all impressed with Jordin’s “Over the Rainbow” either. I had thought she was a lock for the final two. Now I think she may have peaked too soon. With the way Blake is going, he could be in the driver’s seat with Melinda. Phil, on the other hand, has found himself just in time. Hope he’s not gone tonight. Suddenly, it’s interesting.

Melinda is in a completely different league than the rest of them, though Blake was outstanding last night. Jordan and Justin Timberfake are goners.

I thought LaKisha was the best of the night. Hated Jordin’s version of that song and the hair was scary! Phil did really good, but I always said he had a great voice.

Kelle, I’ll jump in with my bottom two, and it is tough. The first is easy for me: Chris needs to go, despite having a better than normal effort last night. Week-to-week, he’s just not as good as the others. As for the second one, that’s harder. I think the public will vote off Phil, who has come on strong of late.

What a great night! Blake by far was the hottest of the night. He has so much talent it is unreal. I do feel bad for chris having to follow that. I hate to say it but I think Jordan might be going home, and that sucks! I think she had a great shot.she has the MTV factor. Phil did good but I think he is gone too!
