The official cause of death has yet to be released. Frankie’s mother is quoted as saying, “It was very sudden. It wasn’t something that was expected. She was doing fine, and we really don’t know very much yet. It still was kind of a shock, and it just wasn’t how we figured things would go. It seems like her little body just gave out.”
While Abernathy didn’t finish out the complete season of the “Real World” due to boyfriend and housemate drama she did help to raise awareness about cystic fibrosis.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation describes the disease as on that aflicts some 30,000 children and adults in the U.S. and 70,000 around the world. The disease is caused by a defective gene and its protein product that cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections.
Services will be held in Blue Springs, Missouri. A scholarship fund has been established in Frankie’s name at Blue Springs High School.
