Did anyone watch the Miss America Pageant
For about 4 weeks leading up to the Miss America Pagent TLC has been airing a reality TV series, “MIss America: Reality Check.” The show followed the 52 contesants as the pageant attempted to remake itself and the contestants.

I watched some of the reality show and also watched the pageant. It was all foolishness! My sister and I have watched the pageant together since girlhood. You’re right about being steered in one direction from the reality show and then the pageant went its own way. Unfortunately, there was no reason for anyone to root for a candidate or dis another. The candidates did not speak until the final question. We did not know anything about them, their interests, platforms, their ambitions. It was really a short-sighted “update”. People aren’t looking for an “it” girl. We’re looking to be reassured that there are still bright, talented, patriotic, pretty American women who want to shape the future. We didn’t get that reassurance from the program this year. And we end up feeling unsatisfied and foolish for watching.
