‘American Idol’ audition train hits Omaha: Episode Recap

The first contestant up tonight (Jan 29), Chris Bernheisel, was so happy to perform he felt “like (he) could explode and happiness is going to explode and fly everywhere. This is the biggest life alternating(not mis-typed) change in my life” And while I’m happy for another week of auditions to get underway… I can’t say I’m that happy.

Bernheisel, opened the show with tears and a crazy - wacky - weird performance. The first person I know of that ever auctioned for the red carpet - they really are lonely in Omaha aren’t they.

OMG… what is in the water in Omaha? Is this the wacky episode or what?

Up next - farmer Jason - forgetting the words at the audition is sad and he appears to have a voice… ah he found a few a of the words - hey, here’s a few more… you gotta feel for this guy - on to Hollywood.

What a fun moment of “you forgot the lyrics.” I think all you can say is wow.

Arm wrestling Rachel Wicker wrestled Ryan… and she wanted to take him down - she wanted to wrestle with Simon too. But, seeing he was out powered, he refused. Oh yeah, she can sing too. On to Hollywood - and then, she wrestles Paula - Paula wins.

Sarah Whitaker - professional wrestler - goth/screaming contestant is up next. Simon’s not amused - calling her performance the “sound track to this town.” I’m pretty sure that wasn’t a compliment.

Ryan is “encouraged” to be a judge for five minutes. Paula takes over for as Ryan is - “pretending to be overpaid for not doing work.” Samantha Sidley - wow! She’s gotta be in. That was fun…

Three more auditions - three more Golden Tickets for Elizabeth Erkert, Denise Jackson and Michael Sanfilippo.

Time for a weepy moment - Angelica Puente is hoping to reunite/reconnect with her father. Belting-out a rendition of “Power of Love,” she earned a Golden Ticket. And, as Ryan calls her father, dad says she has always been his American Idol… the weepies.

Next up - the rockers. David Cook - wow - he has a voice of his own and is off to Hollywood.

“One of the weirdest guys you’ll ever meet” - his words, not mine. Paula has the hiccups. Johnny Escamilla - sings “Shout,” clearing-up Paula’s hiccups. At least that audition was good for something.

A few more clips of the Omaha auditions with some really bad audtions.

Last up - Leo Marlowe - the small town “queen”(his words not mine needs a hug from Paula before collecting his Golden Ticket for a solid performance

The way the episdoe went it would have been hard to predict that Omaha produced 19 Golden Tickets - chalk it up to editing.

Any thoughts about tonight’s show?

My dad is better than your dad!

Mark Burnett, the producer behind the hit reality TV shows ‘Survivor,’ ‘The Apprentice’ and ‘Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader,’ has two more shows in the ready. ‘My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad’ and ‘Amne$ia’ (yes this is really how they spell this) Ugh!

‘My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad’ (MDIBTYD) is slated to start airing February 18th and will follow the wildly successful return of ‘American Gladiator.’ MDIBTYD will feature father and son/daughter teams competing for the the Reality TV playground title.

“My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad” is a high-energy, family-friendly competition series hosted by Dan Cortese (“MTV Sports,” “What I Like About You”). The show will finally prove the familiar schoolyard boast — “My dad is better than your dad!” Dads and their respective son or daughter will be at the forefront of the action leading them in exciting larger-than-life challenges testing dad’s strength, smarts and how well he works together with his son or daughter. Ultimately, the triumphant dad will strut away with money for his child’s future and the all-important bragging rights.

The show is set to air Monday nights at 8 p.m. starting February 18th.

The second show, ‘Amne$ia,’ claims to be a comedy-game show that challanges the contesants to anwer a series of questions from their life experiences - all in the quest for cash.

The host of the show is Dennis Miller ( I was wondering when he would surface again). ‘Amne$ia’ will premiere following the season finale of ‘1 vs 100,’ February 22 at 9 p.m.

It’s good to know we’ll have something new to watch as the writer’s strike drags on. So, set the DVRs

Any other new reality TV shows you’ve heard about? - share ‘em here! We’d love to chat about ‘em!
