Dancing with the Stars - Jumping jives and topless tangos
Ignore what it says up there, this one’s by guest blogger Katie Wedell!
After last week’s unprecedented - I think they want us to gasp here - double elimination, the stars all seemed ready to bring it this week.
Tom seemed ready for action as well with awkward references to 900 numbers and mirror balls - but back to the dancing.
Marlee Matlin & Fabian Sanchez - Dancing the Jive
My Take - Underwhelming, but Marlee looked gorgeous!
Carrie Ann Inaba - Declared she’s getting nit-picky and then something about pancake hands. Score 7
Len Goodman - Thought it was sharp. Score 7
Bruno Tonioli - Lost the timing a couple of times. Score 7
Steve Guttenberg & Anna Trebunskaya - Dancing the man-on-man tango - “I love dancing the tango with Jonathan. He’s very hairy.”
My Take - There was more chemistry between Steve and Jonathan.
Carrie Ann Inaba - “Your best dance so far.” Score 7
Len Goodman - Footwork was fantastic. Score 7
Bruno Tonioli - “Mean, madly, manly!” Score 7
Cristian De La Fuente & Cheryl Burke - Dancing the Jive
My Take - Made me smile, especially when Cristian kicked out a stage light on the final pose.
Carrie Ann Inaba - Sparked some debate when she said Cristian’s arm looks like a little claw. Score 8
Len Goodman - Arms and legs were loose. Score 8
Bruno Tonioli - “;Are you on rocket fuel tonight?” Score 9
Mario & Karina Smirnoff - Dancing the Tango
My Take - Mario looked more confident than Karina - but then almost danced into the lap of a horrified audience member.
Carrie Ann Inaba - “When you dance you have style.” Score 7
Len Goodman - It was a mess. Score 6
Bruno Tonioli - “You can do better, but I didn’t think it was a pile of…” and then Bruno almost got bleeped. Score 8
Shannon Elizabeth & Derek Hough - Dancing the Jive
My Take - From the cartwheels to the last kicks I absolutely loved it!
Carrie Ann Inaba - “Every time you come out here you surprise us.” Score 8
Len Goodman - “What I saw tonight was a really good jive.” Score 8
Bruno Tonioli - Apparently loves a girl who goes all the way. Score 8
Adam Carolla & Julianne Hough - Dancing the Tango - “I Googled Tango…it’s about prostitutes and pimps.”
My Take - Actually liked the tango - hated Julianne’s costume.
Carrie Ann Inaba - “Adam Carolla was quite sexy out there.” Score 7
Len Goodman - Congratulated Julianne on making Adam look like a dancer. Score 7
Bruno Tonioli - Adam’s getting better. Score 7
Marissa Jaret Winokur & Tony Dovolani - “It’s fast, it’s flicky, it’s kicky,” - It’s the Jive.
My Take - An Avril Lavigne song and sparkly argyle - I think she’s out this week.
Carrie Ann Inaba - “That was boring.” Score 6
Len Goodman - A little bit careful. Score 7
Bruno Tonioli - “It was like a jive on cruise control.” Score 6
Priscilla Presley & Louis Van Amstel - Dancing a tantalizing Tango
My Take - Wow! My grandmother never wore a red, sequined garter. Awesome!
Carrie Ann Inaba -“I was mesmerized by you.” Score 8
Len Goodman - “Passion, drama, fire and ice!” Score 9
Bruno Tonioli -“The hot cougar tango!” Score 9
Jason Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska - Dancing the Jive
My Take - Who can pay attention to footwork when Jason is wearing tight pants and Edyta is wearing - not a lot.
Carrie Ann Inaba - Thinks Jason’s lines are breathtaking. Score 8
Len Goodman - “No jive action in it.” And then something about roosters and feathers. Score 7
Bruno Tonioli - “What can I say, I liked it.” Score 8
Kristi Yamaguchi & Mark Ballas - Dancing the Tango
My Take - Just give them the mirror ball thing already.
Carrie Ann Inaba - Kristi’s technique is amazing, but CA wants some more emotion. Score 9
Len Goodman - A great routine. Score 9
Bruno Tonioli -“I want you to be a dirty girl.” Score 9
Who do you think is going home this week? Did you vote? Do you miss Craig?

How to look like an American Idol: Latest Update
If you’re ready to look like an American Idol contestant - would you know where to start?
According to the stylist to the Idol wannabes, Miles Siggins, it takes a lot of time digging through boutiques and about $400 per week for each contestant.
While the show provides the stylist - the stylist only provides advice for the contestants, nothing else. The contestants get the final say about what they’re going to wear each week.
In a recent interview with TVGuide TV, Siggins says little has changed since the beginning of American Idol and the wardrobe process expect the budget. Today the budget is nearly double that of the beginning show’s budget.
One question remains… who’s dressing Paula Abdul these days? Those gloves and that ripped up dress thingy she was wearing on Tuesday (MAR 25) was followed up a very glamorous looking outfit - what stylist would do that - I’m just say’n.

Is Tyra ready to exit ‘Top Model’ ? Reality On TV Update
The latest advertising campaign for ‘America’s Next Top Model’ has Tyra Banks, host of the show, holding a whip and looking quite mean. If the media reports are true, there little chance the advertising department could have known how meaningful that image may have been.
MSNBC, OK Magazine and others are reporting that tensions are brewing between Diva Tyra and Diva Jay Manuel, the photo shoot creative director and host of the ‘Top Model’ running in Canada.
A show insider tells OK Magazine, “the hostess with the mostest, Tyra Banks, and photographer Jay Manuel are this-close to having a catfight on the catwalk. Tyra Banks is not getting along with Jay Manuel. She thinks he has become a diva and is ungrateful to her for making him a star. The way she sees it, it’s thanks to her that he now has a makeup line, a show on Style Network and hosts Canada’s version of Top Model.”
The same insider is reported as saying, “Tyra barely interacts with the contestants and only wants to show up on judging day.”
For fans of the show, the most shocking revelation came when the insider was quoted as saying, “She wants another supermodel to replace her for cycle 13 so she can focus on her other projects.”
In recent weeks, Tyra’s been on the cover of Entertainment Weekly and was quoted as saying, ”Oprah Winfrey is a mogul. Martha Stewart is a mogul. I’m probably a mogul in the making. I’m almost there.” I guess Oprah and Martha should be on the lookout - Remember, Tyra’s got a whip - and I’m sure she knows how to use it.
Since Janice Dickinson, supermodel diva in her own right, already has a show who could/would take over the show? Jay perhaps? Would we even watch? Is anyone watching now?
I’m just waiting for the catfight on the catwalk between diva Jay and diva Tyra…

Latest Update: Ejected ‘American Idol’ contestant makes it big
Winning ‘American Idol’ isn’t the only way to make it into the music business. The New York post and others are reporting that Warner Brothers has signed a contract with the American Idol wannabe, Josiah Leming Before Idol, Lemming had been living in his car. His ballads are earthy and filled with the sounds from life’s experiences - I’m looking forward to hearing more.
Congrats Josiah - what a birthday present. Happy 19th Birthday (MAR 26).

Latest Update: American Idol a night of shockers
Only 9 are left after America Votes.
Right off the bat - I’m going to predict Ramiele or Jason will be going home… As the field narrows, each exit becomes more dramatic. So who will it be this week?
30 Millions votes were cast for this week’s contestants.
The show begins with one of those group numbers. I love the group songs! They are often the best part of these reality shows… Or, maybe I’m just reliving my Brady Bunch childhood.
Who will be in the bottom three and who will be safe? Safe for another week are - Brooke White, Carly Smithson, David Archuleta, David Cook, Michael Johns, Ramiele Malubay, Kristy Lee Cook
In the bottom three - Chikezie (that was a little but of a shocker), Syesha Mercado (another shocker), Jason Castro
Looks like I was wrong… so is America finally tired of Syesha’s acting/singing? Simon tells Chikezie you picked the wrong song. Randy tells Syesha she was brilliant last night(Mar 25).
And… Chikezie goes home… I’m saying what???? really, him????
How wrong was this vote?

Latest Results: Dancing with the Stars - two go home
Two dancers will be going home! Any guesses…
I’m thinking Adam and Monica - Did the voters get it right?
So are the Jonas Brothers an ABC/Disney promoted group? Why were they there? - Really? I had to fast forward…
I dislike the elimination process that Dancing with the Stars uses. Way to draw out an hour.
The first to go home is not Adam Carolla & Julianne Hough - I was wrong. So it’s got to be Penn Jillette & Kym Johnson - right? yep - first to go home are Penn Jillette & Kym Johnson.
The filler dance number was amazing and fit in with the show - although it was tough to understand the Macy’s connection.
Okay, I have to check who the label is for the Jonas Brothers… it has to have an ABC connection. Here it is - Hollywood Records is their record label that is owned by Disney Music Group.
Finally, the second couple eliminated - Monica Seles & Jonathan Roberts.
Did America get it right?

Things to do with those Peeps
Looking for something to do with all those Peeps in your Easter basket? Well, the Washington Post have a suggestion.
For the last two years the Post has been running a contest for those creative types with too many Peeps and too much time - The Annual Peeps Diorama Contest. You’d have to call the second annual contest a success drawing more than 800 entries.
Some of this year’s wacky, clever and unusual entries included -
“Amy Winepeep’s “Rehab”
“Give Peeps a Chance”
“Village Peeple”
“Chick in a Box”
“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Peep Street”
The judges narrowed down the entries to 32 semifinalists and have created a slide show featuring more than 120 on their Web site (The 120 will post later).
A few helpful tips from the contestants for those of you thinking of giving a diorama a try included -
“If you get Krazy Glue on your hands, don’t freak out,” Dokko says. Just remember: Acetone-based nail polish remover will get it off, whereas non-acetone-based remover won’t.
“It’s important to pick a theme you know will make a great image,” Sillers says. “And it was nice to not be confined to a shoe box. I made it in the round. I never built it in the box. I built the box afterward, and this let me have more angles involved.”
“A hot glue gun works miracles and generally costs only a dollar or two. Also, “buy extra Peeps,” Kate Baylor says. “You never know.” “Get other people’s input,” Chin suggests. “What one person thinks is the best isn’t necessarily the best. We had a couple constructive arguments about how things should be placed and how many Peeps we should use. Originally we wanted close to 100 Peeps, and after we got through 40, we realized it was bit much.” washingtonpost.com
You can check out the photo gallery of the semifinalists at washingtonpost.com
If you try this at home - drop me an email with your photo and I’ll post’em here!

American Idol show-biz dad goes stalker
‘Show Biz Moms and Dads’, a reality TV show that aired a few years back, showed just what can happen when the parents of a child star are willing to do just about anything to see their child win.
If TMZ, the venerable source of all things pop culture is correct, David Archuleta, the guy to beat this season of American Idol, has a stalker show biz dad.
TMZ, FOX news and others are reporting this teen star-to-be’s Father, Jeff, had to be “barred from the lot.” The site alleges that David dad’s photo was “hanging in the guard shack in case he tried sneaking in.
TMZ also alleges this isn’t the first time David Archuleta’s dad has been involved in activities to help his son win. Allegedly, David’s dad was “lurking outside her (Tiffany Evans) practices, even trying to coerce her into to drinking milk before a show to ruin her voice.” despite these efforts the site says Tiffany Evans won.
The showbiz dad’s behavior didn’t stop there says TMZ. “Sometimes (he) screamed at his son and has even withheld water during rehearsals, even bringing his son to tears.”
Do these parent’s have the best interests of their children at heart or what are their motives to do whatever it takes to get there child to the top spot? Thoughts?

%!#@ Thanks Time Warner - DVR is not recording ANYTHING!
This should be the place you’re reading about American Idol and who will get voted off… but, thanks to a “converter maintenance/upgrade” NOTHING recorded and still isn’t recording even after the “refresh.”
“So, about a week ago I blogged that changes were on the way to customers with the Time Warner’s DVR service - after finally reaching (30 minutes - no weather related delays) I was assured that If I “re-freshed” my list everything would be okay…. but, despite following these instructions NOTHING recorded today!!!! Arrrgh… I know, the service works most of the time without issue - it is just so frustrating when it doesn’t!
What’s your update experience been? is your DVR working as advertised? How’d you fix it?

‘Top Chef’ 4 - smoking hot?
Since Bravo entered the Reality TV genre they’ve brought us a loser show or two - ‘Top Design’ is one that comes to mind. However, the ‘Top Chef’ franchise is one I love! Season 4 appears to have the right ingredients to set the kitchen on fire.
A twist this season is that two of the contestants are a couple - I’m not sure if they (the producers) knew this up front - but I’m guessing it’ll add to the DRAMA.
And the personalities… I think there were sparks, or at least warm ambers, from the second they all met.
Are you a ‘Top Chef’ foodie? What do you think of the season - a spicy new entree or just some warmed up leftovers?

Latest Update: ‘American Idol’ week 4 who goes home
Were the people at Fox reading this blog - it was just yesterday (Mar. 11) when I wrote that I wished the people at Fox would come up with a new entry for the show… and tonight’s (Mar. 12) show was introduced to us by Jim Carey and some of the Characters from the upcoming Dr. Seuss movie, “Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who.” Clearly a shameless plug for the upcoming - nonetheless - fun.
29 million million votes were cast for this weeks’ contestants - so who will it be.
The Beatles montage was a great way to showcase the skills of the remaining contestants - I’m wishing they’d do more of this during the regular show.
First up are the bottom three, in terms who got the fewest votes - the bottom three are, Syesha Mercado (who was looking a little shocked), Kristy Lee Cook and David Hernandez.
The Dayton Daily News poll result had Kristy Lee Cook going home… but will Dayton be right?
The next contestant voted off ‘American Idol’ is… David Hernandez - I guess America wasn’t ready for a former stripper to win idol.
Did you vote? Did America send home the wrong Idol contestants

Did the SNL parady of ‘Project Runway’ go too far?
There’s little doubt that this season’s winner of Project Runway 4, Christian Siriano, is over the top and is certainly a Diva in his own right. However, some are questioning Saturday Night Live’s parody of him saying the show may has gone too far. So, what’s new?
Here’s the skit:
Amy Poehler’s impersonation of Siriano was spot on. The rest of the impersonations should have been left to the Project Runway contestants - i.e. Santino’s impersonation of Tim Gunn would have been genius.
The contoversy in the skit seems to be revolving around the phrase “hot tranny mess,” a phrase the Runway winner used a couple of times during the season to talk about the wackiness of the situation they were in at the moment.
In an interview with the Washington Post, this season’s winner Siriano said of the skit, “I did see SNL, and had the pleasure of meeting Amy and being in the SNL studio which is in the same building as Bravo. It was so funny and it was kind of scary that she looked so much like me. It was definitely a fierce show. “
Did the show SNL go too far - or were they just play’n.

Latest Update: ‘American Idol’ top twelve perform
A new set yet the same old Ryan Seacrest introduction - I’m sure they’ll get around to freshening up Ryan in a few weeks.
The top 12 make history this week - singing the songs from the Lennon and McCartney catalog.
So how’d they do?
Syesha Mercado
Song - “Got to get you into my life”
My Take - wow! what a makeover. I thought she looked great - her singing underwhelmed me.
Randy - Nice arrangement. It stated a little rough for me. It’s a big old fun song.
Paula - You know you’re a good singer - midway through you found your zone.
Simon - I thought it was better than alright - you looked very-very nervous.
Chikezie
Song - “She’s a Woman”
My Take - What a fun arrangement! I might actually download this one from Itunes! To think he thought he was going home last week.
Randy - Dawg - let me tell you something - who knew. Chikezie smashed it.
Paula - I’ve been waiting for this.
Simon - I’m really surprised I agree with these two. You took control over the stage - I thought you were terrific.
Ramiele Maluby
Song - “In My Life”
My Take - nice performance - certainly didn’t take any risks
Randy - It was kind of pretty - it was also kinda of pretty boring.
Paula - It was pretty safe - I feel like you’re holding back.
Simon - I was bored to tears throughout the entire song.
Jason Castro
Song - ‘If I Fell”
My Take - Remind me why he’s still here?
Randy - I liked it - I didn’t love it. I found myself tuning out.
Paula - I disagree with Randy - I feel your heart.
Simon - It was student in a bedroom - midnight.
Carly Smithson
Song - “Come Together”
My Take - I wasn’t sure at first - but I think I liked it. Not her best - still a fun arrangement. And the crowd goes wild!
Randy - You were strong, confident - stellar performance.
Paula - it was i was already watching a star.
Simon - Week after week so far I think you’ve chosen the wrong song - until tonight.
David Cook
Song - “Eleanor Rigby “
My Take - Could he pick a note - he seemed to catch so many it was grating. I’m guessing I’m not in is demographic.
Randy - It was rocking.
Paula - You are the dark horse. You are front man here on American Idol
Simon - I thought it was brilliant - If this show remains a talent competition rather than a popularity contest - you could win.
Brooke White
Song - “Let it Be”
My Take - What a great song to showcase her voice - nicely done. That song always gets me.
Randy - I don’t know if this is your strongest performance. You have all of this conviction - you gave a heartfelt performance.
Paula - This is your niche - picking songs where American can feel your heart.
Simon - It was one of the best performances for the night - it was believable.
David Hernandez
Song - “I Saw Her Standing There”
My Take - I’m guessing he’s going home - I don’t think America got to see anything on the stage tonight to suggest he’s the next American Idol
Randy - You’ve got a big voice - so on this one - there was just too much going on.
Paula - I feel like you over did it a little bit. Too much.
Simon - David, No, No, No.
Amanda Overmyer
Song - ” You Can’t Do That”
My Take - I think I liked it… I’m just not sure how this will be received by America
Randy - You took a Beatles song and rocked it out!
Paula - You’re having fun - I’m blown away by you.
Simon - I understood about 30% of what you said - you are like a breath of fresh air.
Michael Johns
Song - “Across the Universe”
My Take - What’s not to like about this performance? He made this his own and enjoyable - nice job. A little David Gray like - Doesn’t he remind y’all of Billy from Six Feet Under.
Randy - A little sleepy - .
Paula - your quiet confidence showed on stage.
Simon - It was solid - it was good - you’ve got to let yourself go. It was all a little bit like that.
Kristy Lee Cook
Song - “8 Days a Week”
My Take - did we teleport to the county fair? I thought this was a little Dolly Parton - a little too cheesy. Certainly a toe tapper if nothing else.
Randy - There were some parts I liked about it. I’m kinda torn on this one.
Paula - I didn’t enjoy it. I didn’t get it.
Simon - I thought it was horrendous - you sounded like Dolly Parton on Helium.
David Archuleta
Song - “We Can Work it Out”
My Take - Oops.. OMG, He forgot the words… How could that happen - Oh yeah, he is only 17… all in all not a great showing - he could be going home after that - although this is a popularity contest right.
Randy - It was not on point. It felt forced.
Paula - This wasn’t your best week. You can never let it show on your face.
Simon - That was a mess - you stumbled over the lyrics in the beginning - it was your weakest performance so far.
Who do you think worthy of being sent home?

TIME WARNER could be erasing your DVR (or at least resetting your settings)
TIME WARNER DVR maintenance alert! Your settings could be lost
When I saw the mailing from Time Warner, I panicked… Cable Converter Maintenance March 11, 2008 (read on).
The mailing seems to suggest, “You could miss some of your recordings if you don’t check you converter settings.” For those of us who have come to depend on the scheduled recordings - panic sets in when one thinks about missing a show due to a system issue!
Apparently, Time Warner will be doing some maintenance to the cable converters and we will need to “re-establish” some of our settings - including “DVR/VCR recordings.”
What does this “re-establish” mean? - are they saying reprograming? Why don’t they just say reprograming! - the touchy-feely wording of ‘re-establish” doesn’t quite convey the urgency and the time investment that will be required to reprogram the Queue. This is just like the time the day the DVR died. UGH!
That’s not all - a visit to the TW’s Web site provided more confusion.
When I visited the URL printed on the mailing - www.twdayton.com/settings I found conflicting information. The Web site says the maintenance day is March 18, 2008. A phone call to the company left me on hold for more than 45 minutes… (granted it was snowing).
So, If Time Warner is your cable company - be on the lookout for some maintenance issues that could cause channel outages, the need to update your settings as well as the to need re-establish DVR/VCR settings.
The good news for everyone forking over thousands of dollars a year for services - “Once complete (the maintenance), we will be able to continue to provide quality cable service”… isn’t that what we’re paying for?
If anyone has any information on the Cable Converter Maintenance” or more concrete info - please share - the DVR community thanks you!
UPDATE: 3-9-08 a.m. The phone just rang with an automated message indicating the date will be the 18th (Perhaps they are staging this “refreshing” at different times throughout the service area).

Asia’h Epperson - Why’d she go? ‘American Idol’ Latest Updates
Did America get confused this week?
I didn’t think Asia’h’s performance was her best… but it really wasn’t that bad - was it?
Asai’h - Photo - American Idol.com
My money was on Kristy Lee Cook. Her performance was lack luster and uninspired - I don’t think she’ll be around long in this competition.
The real shocker - or not really - was when Danny Noriega was sent home (I’m guessing his inner drag queen scared much of America). Sure, he’s over the top, but he’s fun to watch and he can handle Simon in a way no one else has been able to do for some time.
Where you surprised by who went home?

Latest Updates ‘American Idol’ who’s in and who’s out
It’s finally down to the top 12…
Blake Lewis, last season’s runner-up, kicked off the musical portion of the show.
In Idol fashion what could take 30 minutes takes an hour (unless you have TIVO or a DVR).
America cast more than 36 million votes to help select the top 12. Too bad America doesn’t get to choose it’s next president this way.
Here’s a list of who made it through to the top 12 - David Cook, David Archuleta, Jason Castro, Brooke White, Michael Johns, Syesha Mercado, David Hernandez, Ramiele Malubay, Carly Smithson, Amanda Overmyer, Chikezie and Kristy Lee Cook
As Asia’h sings her finale Idol song, Danny Noriega and Chikezie are looking pretty little nervous. I’m guessing it’ll be Chikezie… Danny’s is tears before the results are announced… Ramiele losses it…so does Paula - the crowd is quiet.
Kady Malloy (her exit song was awful), Asia’h Epperson (Surprise - why didn’t she sing this well last night?), Luke Menard (he’ll done fine in dinner theatre) and Danny Noriega (I’m guessing his inner drag queen scared much of America).
I have to say I thought Danny would still be around for awhile longer. I also thought Asai’h performance wasn’t the worst this week… But America has voted. Shockers anyone?

Project Runway 4 Fashion Week Season Finale
While season four wasn’t filled with the drama we’ve come to expect with Project Runway the designers may have been the most talented of any of the seasons to-date. (I’m writing this as I’m watching so it might ramble a bit).
Showing their wares at this year’s fashion week were Rami, Jillian and Christian.
Tim’s workroom comments appear to have given the to Rami… so we’ll just have to wait a little long to see who wins this season.
As the show continues, Christian appears to have lost his fierce edge and Jillian is managing to work my last Project Runway nerve like a unraveling seam.
Tim Gunn gave the designers a warm and Tim-like send off as they make their way to Bryant Park.
As the show gets underway - this Project Runway minions aka dressers come out of nowhere… who are they? why didn’t they use the loser from the season.
Let’s start the show. (imagine if you will - I have a set of Project Runway Judge cards and am writing a one word response to each design).
Jillian’s work was sent down the runway first. Milan - Euro-sheik - Wonderwoman - OMG what was that one - Mop - mmm - clubbing - esacapee - packing tape got loose - loved it - wow that was a pant suite - overall nice collection - very tailored. excatly what you would have expected to see from Jillian.
Up next, Rami. Boring, s , New York, ugh, China, Nice, layered (oh those pants), chilly, quiltyl OMG, Outstanding, wow (can she walk in that?) I’m under whelmed.
Finally, Christian. Fierce, Euro-trendy, WOW, sleek, sexy, These girls can walk - how can she see? - wearable, Robin Hood, Furry, marsh mellow, feather duster. Very Christian.
After the show. here are a few of the comments from the audience. Jay loved Rami. Padma loved Jillians - Nick Verreos loved Rami’s work.
The judges including Victoria Beckham debated. So, who will the judges pick? The designers seem more nervous than in the other seasons.
The viewers picked Christian… And the Judges picked - Christian and I think they got it right this season!
Your thoughts on Season 4?
