Who goes next? ‘American Idol’ Latest Update final 5 compete

Ryan starts of tonight’s show by reminding the viewers of last week’s shocking outcome... If he wasn’t trying to get people to vote you would have thought he was rubbing it in that Carly was gone.

The one-hour version of the show is sure to keep things moving right along!

Tonight (Apr. 29) is Neil Diamond night on Idol.

Each contestant will be singing two songs.

Up for his first is Jason Castro.

Jason Castro
Tonight’s songs - “Forever in Blue Jeans’ and ‘September Morn ”
Neil’s Take - “He’ll do fine when he gets up on stage…”
My Take - I think he should have spent a little time getting to know the words before meeting the artist.. I’m just saying. Notice the gutair... The second song was better but You really get the sense he’s bored with the whole Idol thing.
Randy - “I thought it was just okay. It was just okay. Definitely not the best. ”
Paula - ” I loved hearing your lower register. Safe… get out of your comfort zone. ”
Simon -” Forgettable. Jason we don’t recognize it a bit. You struggled through both songs. “

David Cook
Tonight’s songs - “I’m Alive” and “All I Need is You”
Neil’s Take - I got goose bumps - that’s a very gutsy choice in songs. He’s got the right attitude… the right material… he’ll do great.”
My Take - He seems to be trying to imitate Neil Diamond’s voice somehow… He seemed a little subdued for a song about being alive. The second song - was his!
Randy - “Very Strong. You know what man… again you rocked the house again tonight. “
Paula - “… You are the only one who was able to pull that off… I feel like I’m already looking at the American Iodl. ”
Simon -“Just above average. The second song was brilliant. You actually made that song feel like it was from this year. “

Brooke White
Tonight’s songs - ” I’m a believer” and “Now am I said ”
Neil’s Take - It’s (the song) a difficult to sing and make genuine… but I was very impressed.
My Take - Brooke’s bust’n out a piano and a guitar. Based on her first song I don’t think it’ll be enough to keep her in the game… it was a little too low for her. Much better than the first song - Jason’s performance may be the only thing saving her for another week.
Randy - “Better than last week. Nice Job!”
Paula - “… I think what you just did… that works. ”
Simon -” Nightmare. I really, really hated the first song… this is the Brooke we like… sitting behind the piano. “

David Archuleta
Tonight’s songs - “Sweet Caroline” and “America”
Neil’s Take - He’s kind of a prodigy… with a little guidance an suggestion, I hope he takes to heart, I think he’ll do great.
My Take - So far, he’s the first one to make the song his own and he’s been working on keeping his eye’s open! His second song choice… maybe not the best though.
Randy - ” The Bomb. All is I can say is for a young man… you’re in the zone. “
Paula - ” . The was the perfect song for you to sing. You’re voice is so on point. ”
Simon -“Amateurish. That was a smart choice of song… it ticked all the boxes… it was the right choice - check, check, check. “

Syesha Mercado
Tonight’s songs - ” Hello Again” and “Thank the Lord for the Night Time. ”
Neil’s Take - I thought she did very, very well… You can’t help but want to clap along… she’ll do great in the actual performance.
My Take - This is one of her better night’s - but is it enough? I’m not sure. The first song was much better! It was almost like it was a different person singing the second song.
Randy - “It was strong - not amazing but strong. You are finally realizing who you are. I like you in this.”
Paula - “… You’ve got that softness in that voice. ”
Simon -” Old-fashioned. You are a very good actress/singer… I think you might be in trouble tonight. “

America, after tonight’s performances who will go? Can you say Jason Castro? What did you think about tonight’s show?

What did you think of Paula’s big blunder?

That Jason is still there is a mystery to me. He always looks so lay back and should have been eliminated a long time ago. Although David A. has been my favorite from the start, I can’t help noticing some weaknesses during the last laps. He can be amazing as he can be “blah” like in this last Monday performance. David Cook on the other end is always consistent. A great rock’ n roller, in my opinion. I have no doubt the final round will be between the 2 Davids. As for Brooke, too bad she had to go. She’s wonderful sitting at the piano, and very pretty. Syesha has a great voice but somehow she fails to stand out and find her own style. She only imitates the divas whose songs she chooses to sing. And on a nostalgic note, I wish Michael Jones was still there…

Paula is a braindead celebrity, a poster child for the typical Hollywood type if you will. Jason will be sent packing.

There is no question about the worst 2 remaining - Jason & Brooke! I’m still trying to find out why there is so little love for Syesha - no way should she have been in bottom 2 the last two weeks! Those “vote for the worst” sites are keeping Brooke & Jason here far too long!

Cate, you may be right. What Simon said to Syesha may have been a scare tactic for people to vote for her because she is not a bad singer, and he made that VERY clear last night… I am changing my bottom three to David A., Jason, and Brooke with Jason or Brooke going home.

First of all, Paula is not a rocket scientist, she is an artist and first, a human being. Humans make mistakes every once in a while. It didn’t help that Ryan stated at the beginning of the show that the judges would not give their opinions until the end of the 2nd performances, and then changed it up and rushed them saying very quickly now, what do you think? I think AI show last night was rushed too much, and the idols should have sung only one song. I’m not surprised that the judges take notes on rehearsals, to help them with their final comments live on air. Now, as far as judges go, Paula is the only one who stood up last week and told Brooke YOU NEVER STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A PERFORMANCE, NEVER! Brooke did it twice, and I think she should be next to go home. Simon is losing his credibility with this one, using something other than his head to make up his opinions. David Cook rocks everything he touches, including me. I’m totally head over heals in love with this guy. He is MAGNIFICENT. He is a musical wizard and a musical genius. He has talent just dripping from him. He is versatile (from his singing of “Music of the Night” to “Always Be My Baby” to “Billie Jean”). If you are a female, you are probably still trying to pick your jaw off the floor from last week’s performance. To me, he’s better than the Beatles, and I would marry him if he asked me. David A. did well, Syesha did well, and the judges were totally unfair to Jason, who does have his own style (although it is not as big and loud as the other idols). Brooke should go home, then Jason, then Syesha, then David Cook will win AI this year with David A. as runner up. Paula is doing just fine. All is well and right with the world.

Brooke seems to only know how to pick well-known, very popular songs… and destroy them. Her second song was better than her attack on “I’m A Believer”, but still not good enough to be the AI. David Cook was definitely “cookin’” as the signs in the audience all indicated! :) Don’t even get me started on Castro. Just get him off the stage already. (Note, he seems to be able to hit the notes a little better when he stands instead of sitting week after week after week… ) I still like Syesha and David Archuleta did OK. Nothing spectacular out of him though. Michael, I think you’re right about his lack of annunciating… it is noticable and a little irritating. And heard at my house during Paula’s funny: “Have another drink, Paula…”

Jason should go, but two other things. I have always thought David Archuleta was overrated, but now I know why I don’t like him. He can’t annunciate the lyrics clearly. Also, Paula was so funny when she screwed up the comments between the first and second rounds. What was she drinking?

Cate - You might be on to something!

Well, when the show wants you gone so bad they have the negative reviews pre-written (and Paula’s stupid enough to read it), it’s hard to be enthusiastic. David A. was the worst tonight, by FAR. Not that it matters. Anyone stupid enough to think this show isn’t fixed should’ve got a clue tonight!

Craig, Jason clearly looks like he does not want to be there. He is singing so….blah. Brooke bored me to tears. David Cook was great. David A. bored me too. Syesha sung great, but Simon may be right when he said it may not be enough. My bottom 3 would be Syesha, Brooke, and Jason with Jason going home.
