Project Runway Season 5 and the Winner is…

Tonight’s finale featured a few things we expected - a tearful designer or two, a not so surprise judge, a caustic Kenley and something we didn’t expect - A pooping dog

Since the finale was taped in September, video and photos have been floating around on the internet, so, there weren’t too many surprises in terms of the collections presented in the show.

I did have to wonder what Korto was thinking… making two new peices for the runway show. I can’t imagine the pressure of trying to make two new pieces while trying to organize a show.

One of the best parts of the finale is watching all of the behind the scenes drama unfolding before the show begins.

Kenley continued to dismiss Tim Gunn’s feedback. I’ll bet she was second guessing that decision when she learned that Tim was one of the judges.

Leanne’s behind the scene challenge focused on one of her models bringing a dog to the fitting. Of course, it had to do its business and the model managed to clean it up wearing a floor length gown - good work!

The runway show.

Leanne was up first. Her work was bold and had clearly had strong European, Asian and 50s influences… My least favorite pieces were this green high collared dress and the oversized - tulle and ruffled skirt. Her wedding dress design grew on me.

Next up - Korto - She dedicated her collection to her family. Her fabrics were silky and shimmery, yet somehow a little less than I expected from her. Her strongest piece, even though traditional in style, was the wedding gown. The fabric of the outfit she was wearing would have made a great beginning of another.

Finally, Leanne

Her collection was influenced by water, was the most out there of the three collections. Fresh and flowing - all in a subtle and subdued palette… Very elegant and modern. The wedding gown was believable yet fresh in an unexpected way. I think my earlier thoughts are correct… I think she won!

An interesting part of the show is yet to come - the judges comments. This will be the first time we hear Tim’s thoughts from the judges chair.

Judges comments about the designers -

Kenley -

Michael - Loved the painting

Tim - Have a point of view

Nina - The only dress reminds me of another designer…

Korto -

Michael - Loved the inspiration

Nina - Effortlessly cohesive

Tim - Hit a bulls-eye

Leanne -

Michael - The workmanship look divine

Nina - Loved the variety

Tim - Smashing - smart- fantastic look

From the judges comments - I’d say Leanne is the winner… let’s see. One clue, is that the judges didn’t take too long to deliberate this season

First to go… Kenley… So that just leaves Korto and Leanne… And the winner is… Leanne!

I think the judges got it right! Congrats to Leanne!

Project Runway Season Finale

In case you skipped this very important reality TV moment for the all too real drama of the presidential debate: Leanne won.

You also missed some incredible collections, so make sure to check out the reruns.

I had originally wanted to wait for all the final Project Runway collections to be revealed during the finale, but I looked at a bunch of fashion week pictures ahead of time.

Based on those photos I was ready to hand over a victory to Korto. I’ve been a Leanne faithful the whole season, but Korto’s bright, wearable dresses made me think she was a lock.

The actual show tonight did not disappoint. I ended up loving all the collections, even Kenley’s. Leanne’s looks were so feminine and dreamlike, and Kenley’s colors were playful, but Korto’s collection as a whole was simply stunning. I’d wear every single outfit she sent down that runway. I decided I’d be happy if she won, even if it meant my fav gal Leanne coming in second.

Then, surprise! Leanne is the winner. I’m so buying anything she sells on Bluefly.com.

What did you think of the collections? Were you surprised Leanne won?

Project Runway Season 5 Finale Update

While many in the country are likely to be glued to the set to watch the final Presidential debate before the 2008 election, reality TV fans are likely to be catching the finale episode of Project Runway (I’m using the DVR for one of the shows).

In a season that was less that stellar, the cream of this crop of from this season’s show and will be competing on the runway on tonight’s finale (Oct 15).

The finalists - Kenley, Korto, Leanne, will each bring their unique design talents to the show. Of course, Kenley will bring her grating personality, but since the show is all about design, we’ll let the go. Kenley is sure to bring her 50s inspired looks to the runway - Korto was inspired by nature and her heritage and Leanne’s collections was inspired by water.

Don’t forget that tonight’s show might be the last for as the producers and Bravo TV are in a legal dispute.

Do you have a favorite designer from this season’s show? Based on some of the photos from the finale, I’d vote for Leanne. Agree?
