Final 3 too close to call on American Idol?

It’s the top 3! Looks like we will be seeing the footage from their trip home tomorrow night. It will probably be much better than trying to fit it all in tonight’s show.

We are kicking the night off with a song that Paula has chosen for Danny. It is Dance by Terrance Trent Darby.

My take: I am unfamiliar with the song but it did have a bouncy Danny quality to it and I see why Paula chose it for him. I don’t think there was anything special or extraordinary about the song or the performance though.

Judges take: Randy thought he had a lot of energy and it was dope for him. Kara thought it was a good song choice, wasn’t crazy about the dancing and did not think she would remember it tomorrow. Paula, of course, thought he did a fantastic job. Simon thought the dancing was a bit desperate; vocally it was very, very good. He thought Terrance Trent Darby was a good choice but he would have liked to hear him to a different song.

Kara and Randy chose Apologize by One Republic for Kris to sing. I love this song but I’m afraid it’s too big, too recent for anyone to pull off.

My take: So far I’m pleasantly surprised. Wasn’t sure how he would do with the falsetto but it was wasn’t too bad. I love that he played the piano on this one. I think it might have been what sold it for me. Was it spectacular? Not so sure.

Judges take: Randy thought it was really nice and it showed what he could be in the music business. Kara thinks it was a competent job, but she wanted him to take more chances and do more with the song. Paula is proud of him but she thought he had a loud bum note. Simon thought it was a competent version of the song, but not as good as the original and he thought Kara was a cop out for choosing a song for Kris and then blame him for performing it as written. Some argument and banter ensues with Paula acting like an idiot by putting her hands over Simon’s eyes for some reason.

Simon chooses One by U2 because it is one of his favorite songs and he spoke with Bono on Saturday who said it would be their pleasure for Adam to sing their song.

My take: I loved the beginning. Just brilliant. Didn’t love when he broke into the “screaming” phase which is vintage Adam and I usually don’t mind. I still think he is head and shoulders above Kris and Danny.

Judges take: Randy didn’t love him going off the melody that much but it is a great song and he is a really, really great singer. Kara said he just proved that he could change up a song and do it his way and it was “unbelievable.” Paula said it was one brilliant song, one superb performance and one American Idol that she is staring at right now. Simon said it may sound biased but he thought it was brilliant song and a brilliant, brilliant performance and if he is not in the top 2 it will be the biggest upset in the history of American Idol.

We hear an update about Idol Gives Back and it is very heart warming.

Now it’s time for Danny’s choice. He is singing You Are So Beautiful by Joe Cocker.

My take: This song really suits Danny’s vocal range. The emotional aspect of the song will bode well for him as well. A little too many riffs for me in the middle but otherwise a gorgeous version of the song.

Judges take: Randy said mad vocals, mad vocals, mad vocal. Kara exclaimed stunning. Paula said it left them breathless and he nailed a beautiful performance. Simon wouldn’t have done the same arrangement but since it is a singing competition he would call that a vocal master class.

Kris Allen is singing Heartless by Kanye West. Wow. Not something I would have ever thought he may choose.

My take: I’m a bit mesmerized. I don’t start typing until the performance is over which is actually quite rare for me. I like this song choice. I think it was different and brave. Actually, I really liked it.

Judges take: Randy thinks Kris’ version was better than the original. Kara says perfect, the tone, the pitch, the phrasing, perfect. Paula thinks this keeps him relevant and bravo. Simon had literally written him out of the competition after the first song but that has all changed after that performance.

Adam chooses Aerosmith’s Cryin.

My take: I think if Adam was all about getting votes, he would have chosen something slower. Instead he obviously did something that he loved in a genre he loves. He did it brilliantly but I have to wonder if his goal was really to get the votes tonight.

Judges take: Randy said Adam should be a rock star and he’s one of the best performers who have been on that stage. Kara says “See ya at the finals.” Paula says that we will be seeing him for many years to come. Simon says it is very easy to “assume” Adam will be in the finals, but that everyone needs to vote for him because of his singing ability.

Okay folks. I want the final two to be Adam and Kris but I think it will be Adam and Danny.

Now’s the time to make your final two predictions and we will see who is right on track. Maybe the results will surprise us all and it will be Kris and Danny?

Kris is no where near the league of Adam or Danny. It’s the little young chickies who are voting for him and think he’s so cute. Let’s get real here and vote for the talent rather than cutsie with the weird faces while singing.

I love all three guys but I wish it would have been down to Kris and Danny. They are all amazing and we will be seeing them soon no matter who wins. I know I will be in line to buy Danny’s cd when it comes out along with Kris and Adam. This season was just wonderful!

I don;t know if hes gay or not not none of my business. He is not the first person in music to be gay or actors. grow up folks. He can sing and hes not screaming. he knows what he is doing. It should be adam and kris in the finals. danny i like but he needs to go home. he always has some smart answers. like hes the best. he screams more than adam. It is not for us to jusge a person or say they are sinners. that is toatlly up to god. that is the only person adam has to answer to and no one else. I vote vote and vote for adam and he deserves to win period……… kris and danny will get records, adam will be around but they how long. i never cared for taylor hicks and he won.. go figure. now there is person that can’t sing or dance. get off the gay subject. elton john was gay, rod taylor was gay and how many more. jim neighbors was gay. i don’t care as long as he sings and does good and i know he can do broadway and movies. get over it folks. and get on with life and worry about judging yourself with god and not adam or others. its not for you to judge. adam doesn’t have to answer to you. only to god in that sense. while i don’t believe that marriage is for men to men and women to women, i don’t judge them. they can live thier lives as long as they don’t force it on me. marriage should only be between a man and a women period. but what others do that is their business. i am not judging them. i know lots of gay men and i know lots of lesbieans. they don’t bother me as long as thier don’t force themselves on me. so get off adam and american idol. not the only show in the world that has had a gay person on it.

Adam screams his songs and it is awful to listen to. Yes, he is gay. Yes, it is a singing competition. The show is called American IDOL. I want my kids looking up to somebody with our same moral values and beliefs. Both Kris and Danny are music worship leaders in their church. They both sing awesome and with the same moral values I share with them makes it easy for me to want Kris or Danny to win!

Okay..who cares about Adam’s sexual preference. Get over it. That is not what this is about. The boy can sing. His vocals are mad crazy! I won’t be disappointed if he doesn’t win because I’d rather have the freedom to do what he wants and not be under the thumb of American Idol and their contracts. I will buy any album he makes! I like Kris and Danny too but I just don’t see them being artists for years. One hit wonders maybe. But hopefully they’ll prove me wrong! Good luck to all 3. Can’t wait for the finale!

I have been calling out Adam for his screeching for weeks now, while everyone else I know likes him. I can’t stand the way he screams in every song I’ve seen. What is so original about that? I also completely do not like the way Simon “predicts” the winner because it’s not his vote anymore, it’s supposed to be America’s vote. I have loved Danny from the beginning and still want him to win. I also think Kris has very much improved and become an “artist” and would LOVE to see a final with Danny and Kris. Send Adam packing!!

Mandy - I agree with you 100%!!! I too am sick of Adam’s screeching. He is so predictable. Danny and Kris are more versitile. I hope that no matter who wins that Danny and Kris both get a record deal. They deserve it!

Ha, ha, Heather - that’s so true - it seems there is an “arrangement controversy” every season! I do get annoyed by it - but the bottom line is how it is performed. We’ve already had a couple this season - because Adam’s version of “Mad World” wasn’t original either - he did a 2000’s version of a song originally from the 80’s - but he did perform it well. That remains the one performance of his that I really liked this season. I couldn’t feel Kris’s Heartless cos I liked Mia’s so much better. I am sooo anxious to see how this plays out tonight! It is a nail-biter for sure! :)

Adam did songs that were originally done by a couple screamers. He does it well and he is the better of the 3. Danny’s first song, Dance Little Sister, is a fave of mine and I was impressed with it but not the 2nd. Kris? Go home. He should do a Keith Urban type song. He’s pushing the wrong genre. Daughter, grandson and I were on the phones for an hour. 2 Sprint phones never did get through but the Cricket got through 9 times.I told you, it’s a phone dialing contest.

I must say that Danny has been my #1 favorite from the beginning but I did like Kris from the beginning as well. I thought for a few weeks that Adam was very talented BUT the last couple of weeks he has grown to get on my nerves. The screaming, the over indulgence. I do think he is talented and he does get the audiences attention but I think he would be great in a Vegas show, I certainly wouldn’t pay good money to listen to him. I would really like to see Adam go home and Danny and Kris in the finals. I believe they are the most versatile and the most talented!! I am also very glad I had Tivo last night as I only made it through a few seconds of both of Adam’s songs and then I fast forwarded through the rest, enough screaming already!!

It doesn’t matter who wins…you won’t hear about them or their music 2 years from now. Whoever the winner is will flop and bomb just like Ruben did. None of them have superstar qualities like Carrie or Kelly. Daughtry didn’t win but will still be more relevant than this years winner.

I forgot to mention earlier - with all the talk about Kris taking credit for the arrangement that has been done before…..how many times over the Idol years has there been a different arrangement and the judges give the performer credit for it? A ton! Personally, I don’t care who arranged it. The fact is that they see other possibilities with different songs and find the one that suits them. They can re-arrange a song over and over again, but when it comes down to it - if they can’t deliver the performance, who cares about the arrangement.

Adam is clearly the most confident and talented. However, I thought last night he “oversang” everything and settled for screaming over subtlety. Guess that fit the music. But I’m always amazed by how good Kris’ voice is, and he’s become my favorite, possibly because he’s the rare combo of confident AND humble.

Adam is overrated. The screaming, the glam…it just makes me want to turn the channel. Broadway is his calling. Also, American Idol is about finding new unseasoned talent. Obviously with Adam’s resume he is more than seasoned and should not even be in this contest. The screaming needs to stop. Don’t all those tween girls who fantizise about him know they don’t have a chance. He prefers their boyfriends. Not exactly who real Americans should idolize. Danny and Kris should be in the final.

I wasn’t crazy about the song picked for Danny, but I enjoyed his performance of it. His dancing is part of the performance and I think Simon and Cara (can she go away now?) just want Adam to win so badly that they will say anything to discredit Danny or Kris. Kris blew me away with “Heartless”, no matter if he “stole” it from someone or not. He has grown on me over the last 3 weeks. Adam is sooooo predictable and annoying to me. I love “edgy” performers, but he carries it way beyond edgy. I think he butchered two wonderful songs last night. To compare him to Steven Tyler or Bono is ridiculous! I am amused by all of the girls that are “in love” with him, and it reminds me a lot of the “Claymates”. I see a lot of other similarities between Adam and Clay Aiken. Danny and Kris in the finale would be my pick, with Danny winning it all. It is clear if Simon has anything to do with it (as evidenced by his plea at the end), Adam will make it to the finale.

I think that we have a very talented top 3. Not all of them are to my own personal taste - but I acknowledge their talent. I didn’t think it was Adam’s best night. I ended up muting “One” - I couldn’t take it, and I didn’t like the second one much better. But he looks comfortable on stage because he IS a seasoned veteran compared to the rest of them. I’ve said he was meant for a Broadway stage - here’s evidence. I like him actually singing this way - and in my absolute favorite musical too! http://www.givememyremote.com/remote/adam-lambert-in-wicked/ Kris was once again solid - “okay” for me. I did get a bit rankled over the judges saying how original his arrangement of Heartless was - because I took watch Taking the Stage and was blown away when Mia did that a couple weeks ago. He did “Krisify” her version somewhat - but I actually like hers MUCH better - I have often thought that she needs to be on Idol. Here’s her version in case you are curious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKY9IheNaQ8 I still can’t help it - I still love Danny best over all. He was back to giving me chills - the good kind - and I just love it when he lets loose the gravel in his voice. You know - it’s so close that I just can’t even begin to guess! I’m hoping for Adam & Danny in the finale - but I really think that Kris has a shot too. It could go any way really!

Adam should be the winner. He is much more talented than Kris and Danny. He also has much more charisma. I actually chill up anticipating him singing each time. He could also do Elvis.

I missed Danny and Kris’ first songs unfortunately and only caught the end recap of those… I did come in just in time for the judges to argue like idiots about Kris’ performance though. I wanted to high-five Simon when he told Kara it was a cop out to pick a song for someone and then complain about the way he sang it. On their own choices: Danny’s “version” of “You Are So Beautiful” was terrible. I expect nothing less than awful out of him though, so no surprise there. That was an awful arrangement of a great song. I was worried that Kris put the nail in his coffin when he said he was singing “Heartless” — that is until he opened his mouth! That was amazing - and I don’t even like that song (or Kanye for that matter). Adam was just Adam on both performances. He’s not a bad singer by any means and he’s got what it takes to be a performer, but I wasn’t oh so excited and impressed by him last night. I agree a slower song might’ve served him better… My pick: Adam and Kris for the top 2. (fingers crossed).

I’ve been hoping for an upset for the finale between Danny & Kris for a long time and last night proved that it’s still possible. While I didn’t mind the beginning of Adam’s first song - he ruined it yet again with the screaming. Totally unnecessary for that song. I didn’t like Cryin’ at all. While I’m definitely not an Aerosmith fan, I thought he ruined the original. Danny’s first song was decent, but I thought Paula picked a poor choice of songs for this stage of the competition. His second song was incredible though. It showed a great range and I am so glad he nailed it. I liked Kris’s first song - and I’m not sure I remember him playing the piano before. That was a nice change. I didn’t get to see all of his second performance - my DVR failed me and skipped about the first minute of it - so, I’ll have to check out You Tube later on. I was really shocked when I heard it was a Kanye West song……who I can’t stand….talk about arrogant! Anyway, I love Kris and I’m so thrilled that he’s proven to be the singer that I thought he was weeks and weeks ago. I think this is definitely the closest race that we’ve seen on Idol for the Top 3. It really could go any way. I’m crossing my fingers for a Danny/Kris finale - but, I’ll settle for a Kris/Adam finale - with of course Kris taking the crown! :)

First of all, I am not a tween and I do have a teen daughter at home that don’t even watch the show. To those of you who don’t like Adam, well, you don’t remember the great Rock & Roll singers. Who cares what his sexual preference is? That should only mattter to God and no one else. He can sing but I understand some don’t like his style as I don’t Kris’. Kris can sing but he is not my preference nor my husband’s who just started watching this year bc of Danny and Adam. I would love to see both in the top 2 but this year is a close race since they all sing so different. What is your music preference will make the difference this year for American Idol.

I am not a rock star fan but Adam has such a range with control, I feel he will win. Kris did amaze me with the song of his choice. I love watching him sing with the way he twists his mouth. Danny has such a determination and you can feel every song he sings. It could be a surprize ending between Danny and Kris - who knows??

Any music expert will tell you that Adam is leaps ahead of either Kris or Danny. While his style may not suit all, he has a chance to do something special in the music world. Kris will carve out his Jason Mraz niche, and Danny will be singing on a Carnival cruise one day.

Doesn’t anyone realize that Adam just yells everything he sings. He completely butchered One, that’s not a song that’s meant to be sung like that. The high pitched scream is his crutch, and he knows it, which is why he’s done it in all but one song he’s sang. And unfortunately, most of America is easily led on by gimmicks and image, so its unfortunate that Adam will most likely win because of the legion of idiotic tween girls he has behind him, even though he cant shake a stick to the soul of Danny, or the overall musical ability of Kris.

Maybe it sounds different in the studio, because I thought both of Adam’s efforts were screeching messes. He butchered U2’s “One.” I voted for Danny and Kris (for the first time). While I can appreciate Adam’s creativity, I can’t take the screeching anymore. Go Danny.

Kris is brilliant. I love his voice. I would love to see him win it.Adam and that coated tongue of his makes me cringe. But he can sing, and I prefer the slower songs he does. I love Danny’s voice but I don’t think he can win it. They are all going to be successful no matter who wins. I still love Kris…always have.

All three guys sang well. The song/performance that I remember the most is “You Ae So Beautiful” by Danny. Bottom line, it was very well done, heartfelt, and did not stray too much from the tune that we all know. As for who will go home…I’m not even going to take a guess this week.

Does anyone watch Taking the Stage on MTV? If so, you will realize that Kris totally ripped off one of the HIGH SCHOOL students on there with the Heartless version. All of the judges gave him so much props for being so creative but it wasn’t even his arrangement. He shouldn’t be able to take credit for it. It’s been done. Kris needs to go home! Go Danny!!!

They all did well. No clunker songs in the bunch, which hasn’t happened at this stage in the past. Always someone had messed up. Anyway, I think Adam’s second song reinforced in those who don’t love him that dislike of the screaming, screeching style. I predict an upset: Adam goes home, and we get a finale of the solid but not exciting Kris and Danny.
