‘Dancing’ Finale: Who took home the Mirror Ball Trophy?
Finale night has finally arrived. After 10 long weeks it’s finally time to see who gets the trophy.
We welcome back all 16 stars from this season. Wow. I forgot about some of these people. Some of them with good reason.
Those 13 line up sporting event tunnel-style to welcome the 3 finalist couples to the ballroom.
Let’s see in the “live” show they had a glitch and went backstage to… is that Miss Piggy? OK. Apparently they need a commercial break to recover.
Time to take a look back at last night’s dances.
While the finalists get ready for their last dances we get Whitney Houston singing her single “Million Dollar Bill.” Let’s hope she looks as fierce as she did on the AMAs and maybe she’ll sound a little better.
Well her dancers were hot and she does look pretty great. Her tight dress seems to be keeping her from dancing much though. However, her singing/lip synching seems a bit off.
Wow. Those “million dollar bills” all over the floor are gonna be a mess to clean up.
Jeffrey Ross brings us back to the Losers Club and he comes back to roast someone. He’s prepared to induct Ashley Hamilton into the Losers Club with him.
Oh dear. The worst (Ashley) dances to “Simply The Best” with Edyta and… Jeffrey? Uh oh they dropped Edyta and wowza they ripped open their shirts to reveal a decent looking Ashley and a very pale Jeffrey.
Time for the quick dances from the ones who’ve been kicked off. First up Kathy, Macy and Debi. There’s a reason these three were gone so soon.
Tom DeLay is back to dance the Texas Two-Step he was denied after his foot injury sent him packing. Good lord those swiveling hips of his. Sigh. Some things America doesn’t need to see.
Coming back to the floor next are Chuck Liddell & Anna Trebunskaya and Mark Dacascos & Lacey Schwimmer. Nice sparring between the guys.
“Coach” Adam Carolla gives some advice to the players… well at least to Donny anyway as he’s the “last man standing.”
The star who went home in what Samantha says was the most shocking elimination of this season*, Natalie Coughlin dances with her partner Alec Mazo. *The most shocking? That’s debatable.
Up next Melissa Joan Hart gets to dance her Salsa. It’s the dance she would’ve used if faced with a dance-off. Hey! That was pretty cute!
Wow. They cut to Macy Gray in the audience. She looks a little out of it. Not that I’m terribly surprised.
The judges give their analysis of the final 3. Ha! Len referenced the Highlander. “There can be only one!”
Aww. Little Kelly Osbourne just made me cry. She and Louis dance the Viennese Waltz for the last time. It’s just like her first dance on the show (outfit and all) and she’s still mesmerizing.
She made Carrie Ann and Louis cry too. Oh my.
Mya and Dmitry dance their Jive and she’s good, but she still shouldn’t win.
Donny and Kym give us another great dance for their final number. I wasn’t thrilled at first that he made the finals, but he might just win this. I’m alright with that, but I still think Joanna should’ve been here in the finals tonight.
The judges will now rank them 1-3 just as last night to add to their final scores and determine the final 2.
3) Kelly & Louis earning 26 points
2) Mya & Dmitry earning 28 points
1) Donny & Kym earning 30 points
Wow! Donny’s face clearly shows he was SHOCKED! I am a little bit too. I agree with the choice of Donny for 1st but the judges and I usually don’t see eye to eye.
Donny Osmond performs “Puppy Love” while Louie Vito and Chelsie Hightower dance.
Wowza! Look at those flips out of Louie. And Donny sounded pretty good himself.
Up next Super Bowl champs Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice compete (with pro partners Anna Demidova and Anna Trebunskaya) and are still battling each other. They’ve even got a mirror ball ring for the winner of this grudge match.
I think Michael wins. Jerry was kinda weak.
And the judges pick: Michael and Anna. But they also decided (after much yelling from Carrie Ann) that the battle of the bodies went to Jerry and he gets a ring too.
Cloris Leachman, Steve Wozniak and Jerry Springer prepare to return to the ballroom, and Miss Piggy gets into a bit of a catfight with Samantha after some “hogging” of the spotlight. Pun likely intended.
Aaron Carter and Karina Smirnoff bring back their Muppet inspired dance to the crowd’s delight.
Miss Piggy questions if the 3 previous losers can take on Joanna Krupa in a competition mambo and actually win. Who will be the last couple standing?
Cloris and Corky are out first.
Jerry and Edyta are out next.
Steve Wozniak pulled out the worm! Awesome.
Steve and Karina are out (as Derek tries to convince Steve to do the worm with him again). That means Joanna and Derek are the champions again! Shocking. Not.
We’re winding down with 15 minutes, 2 eliminations and a 2nd performance from Whitney Houston to go.
Yay! Whitney’s gonna sing “I Wanna Dance With Somebody!”
She just started singing and she’s already way out of breath. And she’s got a whole army of backup singers. She’s hard to hear when she actually bothers to sing. This is really terrible. Oh, Whitney.
Time to find out who’s in 3rd place. And that couple is…
Kelly Osbourne & Louis Van Amstel.
Aww. Even Tom Bergeron hints that she was his favorite. Ma & Pa Osbourne look quite proud of their daughter.
Alright we finally find out who will be the season 9 Dancing With the Stars champions and take home the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. Will it be Mya or Donny?
And the winner is?
Donny & Kym!
Of course, Donny & Kym are elated (I know you aren’t surprised by that). Donny just ran over to drag his wife out of the audience. And then to grab his sister Marie and bring her out to hoist the trophy with him. I think the right couple won tonight.
Well folks, that wraps up another season. Are you happy with the outcome?
Until next season.

I am very happy Donny and Kym won. I would have been happy if Kelly won too. These two came a very long way. They listened to everything the judges said and worked hard. Mya was good from the beginning. She had no way to improve..boring. The show is about improving. WTG Donny and Kym!

Whitney Houston was soooo bad.I was glad to see Donny win, he might have not been “the best”, but he and Kelly were what the show is about:working, and working it out. But they were all good.By the way, if you are going to post-spell the names of the contestants right! It’s DONNY and MYA

Still would’ve like to see Kelly win, but I know that would’ve been a long shot! I’m happy that Donny won it! Way to go!

What a rip off. Donnie should not have won. Why don’t any women win when they are always in the top three. Awful! Awful! Too much fan base instead of actually dancing. What a rip off?
