PRINCE ROCKED!

So, what exactly did we expect from Prince in the SupBowl halftime show? Did we expect him to misbehave, dropping all this Jehovah’s Witness nonsense and coming out in buttless pants, a la the MTV awards?

Did we think the man who dropped off the grid for several years to release music only off his own website might pull a fast one and play songs that none but the hardest-core fans might know and love?

Did we think he might play “Darling Nicki” and bring masturbation to a national TV audience that still frets about the …gasp! … sight of a pastie just a few years ago? Horrors!

NAAAAAAAAH. The Purple One played it very very straight, coming out with a straightforward classic-rock show that acknowledged and paid proper respect to the venue and the event. He opened with a blazin’ version of “Let’s Go Crazy,” from his “Purple Rain” days, and even dipped back into that title song from the era in which most viewers likely knew him.

Which is what made Prince a pretty sure bet for the Super Bowl show. He’s well known, professional, and yet seems a tad bit edgy to a large number of thhe people watching this most mainstream of mainstream events…. And he met that challenge with a wonderfully entertaining set that hit a lot of high notes, threw in a ton of great hard-rock guitar (it’s easy to forget what an excellent player he is) and a sexy show of old-school hits that met everybody halfway and also satisfied those malcontents amongst us who kinda wish he’d just soooooooooooooooooorta misbehaved, just to stir things up a biit.

Good thing he was grown up on our behalf. I knew I loved that guy!

Prince provided us with a great live halftime show which is a big difference from shows in the past. He got down on the guitar and played Hendrix and the Foo Fighters! (I see at least 40 years between the two) He sang songs by black artists and then the Foo Fighters “is someone getting the best of you”! Do you think he had a deeper meaning attached? AND If you weren’t even aware that he sang Foo Fighters then you might not be qualified to post a bad review.

Prince gave a GREAT performance at the Superbowl. That was the best half time musical performance I have ever witnessed. He switched between his old tunes and some vintage rock yet still overcame the rain, wind and the strict time requirements. I hope to see him again at another Super Bowl.

Naturally it wasn’t the best show ever. Super Bowl halftimes are generally lame unless a woman bares a breast or something. It was pretty darn good for its genre, though. I was impressed with Prince’s selection of music. Anybody remotely familiar with his Purple Rain period knew he listened to some Jimi Hendrix in his day, but who knew he’d ever heard of the Foo Fighters? And I liked seeing him show off his guitar skills for the first time in a long while.

The halftime show may have been great for the older generation, but for the younger generation it was merely mediocre. Granted it was better than the Rolling Stones and Janet Jackson, I just do not see what was so great about it. They need to incorporate many new and old artists into the halftime show so that it can be more appeasing to all generations, not just the older generations.

Prince was amazing! I am 21 years old and loved the show. The lights were awesome. He really did rock the crowd. His guitar playing was also great. That was the best half time show I’ve seen!!

I was a huge fan of Prince way back then. My best friend and I went to his show at the Nutter Center about 6-7 years ago. We were sorely disappointed when he did not perform one of the songs that we had paid so much money to see. It was with great trepidation that I awaited his halftime show, sure that he would once again, disappoint me. Boy was I ever wrong! That was one of the best half time shows ever. He played my favorites and played them well.

It was exciting seeing Prince strut and play and sing and just hear him say “Dearly beloved..” That face, those glances, and even the look—before and after the removal of the glorified doo rag…what’s not to love?!! I’m asking me son for Prince’s greatest hits CD for my birthday because I’ve been reminded how great he is. Oh, and that birthday in 2 weeks will be my 60th…so much for your demographic.

I thought the half-time show was great. A wonderful “family” moment. But of course the purple one is always awesome!!! Glad to see a clean, uneventful show!!

First of all,Prince’s halftime show was eaisly the best of any I have seen.(I am an ardent football fan,and have seen them all)Marching bands?……marching bands?…..give me a break,NO one and I mean no one is going to look forward to seeing that globally reconized marching band.Jamie, your most likely not the only one that thought it was “the worst.”other’s who are of a like mind also have taste only in their mouths. You really need’nt be a “funk” or “R&B”fan to have enjoyed that have time show, only the fans of Perry Como(no disrespect for Mr. Como or his fans intended here,)or Marilyn Manson and his fans….(ROLLING MY EYES HERE)would not have appreciated it.For the record, and to pinpoint my exact demographic,I am a 43 year old white male that listen’s to everything from the Stone(and they were horrible a few years ago) to Bocephus to the Grateful Dead, to Stevie Wonder to JayZ.

I agree with Ron and disagree with some of the people posting here. It was a good show. Anyone else think the guitar Prince used near the end cast a strange shadow when he was behind the big curtain?

Fifteen minutes of retreaded rock-n-roll hardly deserves such a -golly gee whiz whaddant he just great- from the newspaper critic. Granted the high heeled one is a blistering awesome ax-man, but the greater amazement was the courage (crazy) it took to strut about with various electric guitars in the purple rain. Crazier, too, kissing the mic stead of the sky. Whattya figure? 150k a minute for a medley? Personally, I liked the brothers that made up the marching band. Stay warm, ya’ll

Ron said, “The Purple One played it very very straight” - but ironically one Dayton newscaster slipped afterwards stating, “Betweeen the gay, er, I mean between Prince and the commercials, there was a game going on.” That slip-of-the-tongue was the highlight of my night! Ha, ha! Maybe next year, Chicago.

SOOOOOO impressive!!! I was never a huge Prince fan, but enjoyed his music. He reminded me today what a great musician he is. And to be out there in the pouring rain, dancing and grooving it up, fantastic!!! I was also impressed with the backup dancers in spike heels giving it their all in the rain. Best Super Bowl show in a long time!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but “What halftime show?” The time has come to return to our traditional past and let the marching bands do it. Football and marching bands, as American as, well, football and marching bands.
