if atheism is ascendant it is largely attributable to the behavior of those who claim great faith. anyone who is inspired by their faith to assassinate unbelievers or who uses their position to prey on a vulnerable flock or justifies mayhem, torture and duplicity in the name of righteous service to faith has done more to cast doubt on the existence of god than anything dawkins or hitchens might have suggested.
