Rockin’ with the Rubi Girls…

OK, kids, if you haven’t seen the Rubi Girls, you need to. Plain and simple as that.

The ladies put on a heck of a show Saturday night at Club Masque downtown, and the place was packed with fans of Dayton’s famous troupe of wild, wacky cross-dressing guys who really know how to strut in heels…

Check out the group’s website for background and photos from previous shows if you are unfamiliar with them. I had seen the documentary “Rubi Girls” film previously, but had missed a live show till last night.

I won’t let that happen again… If they’re in town, we’re there.

They are naughty, raucous, adult fun. They’re colorful, clever and absolutely hilarious. The sense of humor at work behind the jokes, satire and choreography are insanely original.

Topical? They had fun compressing “Wicked” into a nutty seven minutes that didn’t necessarily make me want to see the play. And let’s just say the Girls found a way … heck, several ways … to have the last word on Michael Jackson, who must be moonwalking in his grave by now.

Go for the dresses! Go for the wigs! Go for the dancing! Go because they’re gorgeous! Just go, go, go.

My husband and I have been to many shows over the last 13 years and are NEVER let down. The shows are full of energy, wit, and bawdiness, that never disappoints. They have opened their hearts to many who have faced calamity and generously offered their time, blood, and sweat. I’m always awed by thier talent, hearts, and willingness to perform the “Rubi-dance” (an awesome version of “River Dance” that you have to see to believe)!

I’ve seen the Rubi Girls before, sung on the same bill with them, and I even know one of their members Esther Price(Allen Kimbrough)from the Dayton Gay Men’s Chorus. They’re a hoot! Even straight audiences love them.

Hi Ron. Jonathan here…aka Ileasa Plymouth. Thanks for your kind words. We had a great time on Saturday night, and I’m glad you had a blast. I fell in love with these girls more than a decade ago and became a groupie - and look what happened! Because I was a fan first, I can brag that the dynamic of what happens on-stage, backstage and WITH the audience is magic - and people love being a part of the experience. In just the past few weeks (due to a birthday bash and last night’s show), we’ve raised close to $15,000 for local charities - and it’s all done while having a good laugh. That’s pretty great medicine. All the best, Jonathan
