Our greatest actress

Is there any doubt? Nope.

What’s your favorite Meryl Streep movie? Tell, tell….

For me, it’s a “Silkwood”/”Sophie’s Choice”/”Out of Africa” tossup…

Doubt

IMHO, “greatest” in acting should be viewed without the awe. After all, once an actor gets a measure of success, he has opportunities to grow beyond where the normal working class are. To speak well, pose well, and make great use of camera angles. Some even work out most of the day. I used to think Meryl Streep was one of those that was always put up there and adored too much. I thought it was mostly because of her talent to perform in such a variety of roles, more than the actual acting quality. Her smiling/laughing used to irritate me, like she was using that to communicate a supreme intelligence. Anyway, it was when I watched her in the Kevin Bacon (The River?) movie and in “The Devil Wears Prada,” (neither of which are great movies, I’m sure) that I was finally won over. She can probably do any role and in a really entertaining way. I am surprised nowadays how even children like Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds) can perform so well. (It seems like if you want to see a multitude of horrible actors in movies you have to go back a few years.) Still, even though there are so many good ones now, Meryl Streep may stand out in many respects. So if I get to cast the deciding vote, she gets a definite maybe!

I loved her in Heartburn, Angels In America and Julie and Julia.
