Frosties, steak and shrimp on sale
According to the restaurant’s commercials, Wendy’s will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year by marking down four of its staple menu items to 99 cents.
The Web site doesn’t mention the anniversary (maybe it’s shy), but does confirm that Wendy’s will be offering their small Frosty, small chili, sour cream and chive baked potato, and Double Stack burger for 99 cents.
The deal is reportedly only for a limited time and only at participating Wendy’s. But, since the first Wendy’s opened on Nov. 15, 1969, maybe the prices will stick around at least until mid-November.
At Outback Steakhouse, we have reported that the restaurant has 15 meals for under $15, starting at $9.95.
But one of those specials that wasn’t specifically called out, but bears noting is the Outback Special, which includes a 6-ounce steak, 3 grilled shrimp and a side item for $9.95.
However, if that isn’t enough steak for you, you can get biggie size it (in honor of their shared blog post) to include a 9-ounce steak for $13.95 or a 12-ounce steak for $16.95.
And, speaking of shrimp, Red Lobster’s endless shrimp deal is reportedly back. You can select two of your favorite shrimp preparations and get as much as you want for $15.99.
Don’t forget that each entree includes salad and unlimited (and awesome) Cheddar Bay biscuits.
As the restaurant notes, though, the shrimp may be endless, but the deal is not.

Edy’s ice cream deal at Meijer
Miamisburg deal-spotter Karen Baird found this bargain at Meijer this week:
“If you buy four 48-ounce containers of Edy’s ice cream this week (through Saturday, Sept. 19), you get a coupon at the checkout for $4 off your next shopping trip,” she said. “The coupon is good for two weeks.”
Baird added that, since Edy’s ice cream is already on sale this week for $2.99, if you buy four 48-ounce containers, you spend $11.96. And then you get the $4 off coupon.
“So it’s really like getting each container for $1.99,” she said. “(That) is a 43 percent savings each, since the regular cost is $3.50 per container.”
If you have a freezer for storage or you really like ice cream, this is a great deal.

Here are the latest ones that could affect us in Ohio, but for a complete list of recalled items, see the FDA site.
Click on the names below for more information.
Premier Organics has issued a nationwide recall of Artisana raw tahini because of risk of salmonella contamination. The affected lot (lot number 90811) has been distributed nationwide through retail locations and online stores. No other lots have been affected.

Retirement special tonight on PBS; ‘Deals’ show changes time slots
At 9 p.m. today, Sept. 15, on PBS Channel 16, there will be a show for those thinking about retirement called “Retirement Revolution: The New Reality.”
The nationally broadcast show, hosted by news anchor Paula Zahn, will address the fears of many Americans who are considering retirement but have fears due to the economy and the costs involved in getting older.
The nearly 90-minute show will share personal stories of several families, and focus on new glimmers of hope and dramatic changes people are making to help ensure they can afford to retire.
It also will hear from experts who analyze the financial problems of retirement and demonstrate ways to richer, healthier retirement years.
On the deals front, as mentioned earlier in this blog, the TV show “The Deal Detectives,” has set up camp in Dayton for a season.
The show began Aug. 30 and, according to producer Dave Douglass, the show opened to great numbers in the area — “even more so than in the Columbus market.”
Douglass noted, however, that the show has changed time slots on Sunday mornings. It will be shown at 11:30 a.m. Sundays on WKEF-TV Channel 22.
The show gives area businesses three minutes to tell you what deals they have to offer, peppered with general money-saving tips. To check out the show, visit the site at www.thedealdetectives.com.
Douglass said they are still welcoming area businesses for this season, which ends Dec. 13.
