Hotels, beach and ski deals up to 50% off
If you are planning to travel in the near future, here are some deals that could save you some cash:
In its Winter Sale, Travelocity is offering $75 off vacation travel bookings for those who buy with their American Express cards. That deal is through Feb. 28.
Expedia’s Winter Sale is discounting hotels up to 30 percent, and has an extra deal today, Jan. 6, that reportedly offers extra savings.
CheapTickets and Orbitz have the best deals on hotels today, offering savings of up to 50 percent off.
Orbitz also has beach and ski deals of 40 percent to 50 percent off.
Priceline has what it is calling “last-minute pricebreakers,” with a variety of hotel, flight and package deals.
The site calls the deals “hand-picked,” but what they really mean is there is less flexibility. If the deals meet what you need, though, they could be great.
For example, Priceline notes up to 60 percent off a 4-Star Denver hotel this month.
SmarterTravel has its deals noted, and offers good information about travel as a whole — such as guides to airline fees and deals by airline, if you have a preferred choice.
Hotwire has a nice list of cheap travel choices by destination, departure city and even theme. Hotwire also has five money-saving tools to help you travel smarter.
Travelzoo has a list of its best deals each day.
Other sites that have deals to check out include Kayak and CheapOAir, and for general information in never hurts to stop by TripAdvisor.

Tips to help keep shopping resolutions
The Coupon Sherpa had two good posts recently that can help you save money while shopping in the new year.
First off, there is the site’s Top 10 Grocery-shopping Resolutions for 2010. It is a list of simple things you can do to cut your costs when food shopping.
My favorite on that list is to create a top-20 list of the products you most often buy, and note the going prices so you know a great sale when you see it.
That one sounds kind of fun to do, too — like a study of your family’s consumer habits. I would guess ketchup, Cookie Crisp and beer would make the top 20 my house.
The other handy Coupon Sherpa list notes 6 Money-saving Resolutions for Shoppers.
Those are a bit more hard-core, but should definitely work — especially the tips that suggest you wear uncomfortable shoes or bring your husband.
I would add a seventh resolution to that list: Take stock of what you and your family owns before heading out. You may think you have nothing good to wear until you go through your closet thoroughly.
And that one won’t even hurt your feet.
