Massive auto recalls prompt safety tips

Toyota announced a massive recall this month, pulling back 2.3 million more vehicles to fix accelerator pedals that can stick, causing cars to speed out of control.

The announcement came after 4.2 million Toyotas were recalled late last year due to gas pedals that could become trapped under floor mats, causing sudden acceleration.

In response to these issues, Consumer Reports assembled a helpful list of how to stop a runaway car, if you find it accelerating beyond your control.

It never hurts to review these tips if, like me, you own a Toyota (although not one listed in the recall) and just want to err on the safer side of life.

In related news car recall news, if you didn’t see it on the business page of our Web site today, Jan. 29, Honda announced a huge recall of its own.

Honda is recalling 646,000 Fit/Jazz and City models because window switches can overheat when exposed to liquids, potentially causing smoke, melting or fire.

Just another Black Eye for Unionized Auto Workers. Toyota’s call back of 4.8 million vehicles to fix problems that could lead to sudden uncontrolled acceleration including its Lexus models has set yet another U.S. Automaker record. This week, as thousands of unemployed big 3 union workers stand in line to get their unemployment checks all across our great nation they have yet another cross to bare. They lost another crown to the Asian juggernaut known as Toyota. The crown which many thought could never be lost and has stood firmly on the brow of these Lazy Union Slugs for well over 35 years has been stolen. The title of “Recall King” now firmly sits atop the head of your Non-Union Brothers at Toyota. Unbelievable as it may seem to the Naïve U.S. buying public and Auto Writers who have flocked like lemmings to this brand over as many years. This dark day will not stand! There are already reports that Senator’s Bob Corker, Richard Shelby and the other Import Auto promoters including George Will are putting together a Congressional Hearing to Honor this momentous feat. Rumors circulating say the Senators will claim this is just another example of lazy Socialist Rustbelt Union Workers being too lazy to build this much Junk in such a short amount of time. Fear not my Union Brothers and Sisters this will change nothing. Remember, in this country the tail wags the dog. Attempts to use this to tout the quality of any vehicle manufactured by a unionized workforce will be squashed. General Motors has simply gone from Generous Motors to Government Motors and the majority of the U.S. public still loves to hate its workers. Keep your chin up and your eyes peeled for run away Rice Burners, they are dangerous to your health.
