Ingredient recall expands to 153 products
McCormick & Co. announced Thursday, March 11, that it was expanding its recall related to the ingredient HVP (hydrolyzed vegetable protein) supplied by Basic Food Flavors of Las Vegas.
According to the Food & Drug Administration, that ingredient has been identified as having the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.
The FDA said that HVP is a flavor enhancer used in a wide variety of processed food products, such as soups, sauces, chilis, stews, hot dogs, gravies, seasoned snack foods, dips, and dressings.
It is the latest in a long list of companies recalling its items due to this possible contamination. Other companies involved include Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Quaker, Pringles and more.
As of Thursday afternoon, the number of recalled products had hit 153. Fortunately, at this time, no illnesses associated with this contamination have been reported to the FDA.
