Hop to it

Anyone with an interest in history will know that The Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence were drafted along with beer in taverns in Philadelphia when this country wasn’t even old enough to legally drink. To help that interest grow, Magic Hat Brewing has joined up with the Web site headcount.org to encourage people to register to vote, in an attempt to take democracy back to its roots in the taverns and bars of America. Magic Hat is known for their unusual ales, marketing style and unabashed promotion of liberal causes, but headcount claims to be non-partisan. And, to help drum up even more attention, Magic Hat released the Participation Lager, which is part of its Participation mixed 12-pack in stores across the country for months. How’s the beer? It has some of the qualities of both presidential candidates, and most of all it’s very transparent. You decide. — Jim Witmer, Staff Writer
