Asa George replaced on ‘Fox 45 in the Morning’

Economic pressures have forced a familiar face from “Fox 45 in the Morning, ” Dean Ditmer, Fox 45/ ABC 22 general manager, said Wednesday, April 8.

Anchor Asa George has been let go.

Asa George (right) with Bellbrook’s Kelly Stephens at a benefit for the Humane Society of Greater Dayton

George, who helped launch the 4-hour morning show three years ago, was told Friday, April 3, that she was being taken off the air and that her contract would not be renewed.

Ditmer said she decided to leave two months before the contract’s official expiration date.

The decision to replace George, a five-year employee, with Kylie Conway was economic and not entered into lightly, he said.

“This is a sign of the times,” Ditmer said. “ People are asking ‘what’s the story behind the story,’ unfortunately it’s the same story that has been heard before.”

The station, like many business, has been asked to tighten its budget , Ditmer said.

There were a series of staff cuts by the station last year, including Mark Pompilio, a news anchor at WKEF-TV Channel 22/WRGT-TV Fox 45 for 10 years.

Conway, who has previously worked in Toledo, joined Fox 45 earlier this year. She works with Pete Scalia, Rhonda Moore and Mike Terwilleger.

Ditmer said George had been a great asset to the station and community.

“Asa is a wonderful talent and she was a great face for the station,” he said. “I think Asa is going to do great things. I am looking forward to watching her career.”

When contacted Wednesday, April 8, George, who was raised in Houston, said she was saddened that she will no longer work for the station and now must leave the community.

“Dayton has been my home for five years, ” she said. “It has been a wonderful place. Its been a great place to gain experience. I’ve met wonderful people.”

George said she treasures the relationships she has built in Dayton and will miss serving the community.

“It kills me,” she said. “I have invested in this community.”

Despite a tight job market, George is trying to remain positive and is working with agents from New York-based NS Bienstock to find employment.

“It is like they always say, when one door closes another one opens,” George said. “I am looking forward to seeing what happens in the future.”

In the meantime, she plans to do volunteer work at organizations like the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.

So, if she’s being replaced, that means they got someone cheaper. Someone with less experience, perhaps? I’m sure that will help ratings. They’ll probably raise ad rates as well. S

Asa was the hottest thing since sliced bread. Why would they let her go? They should let someone go like Pete or Rhonda. Rhonda giving the traffic is like going to the dentist to get a root canal done. Pete is so queer that he drinks O’Douls at Tanks.

I can’t believe this. I switched from channel 2 because I didn’t like their replacement and now the same has happened again.

Yes they got somebody cheaper. No “on air” talent with good looks, youth,AND experience would come to such a 2nd rate market such as Dayton. We either get newbies or oldies. On thier way in, or on thier way out. As far as Rhonda, I think she is sooo hot! I love the way she nervously giggles, call me!!!

The new one comes from Toledo? I bet she wasn’t in tv up there. Toledo is alot bigger market than Dayton. Nobody goes from a bigger market to a smaller market without a good reason. Mmmmm…makes one wonder!!

I think it is sad - sad that Fox 45 made such a poor decision - Asa was part of the reason I watched their morning news each day - they just lost me as a viewer - hope their choice to fire someone to hire cheap leaves them with reduced viewership and sponsors - then they will get what they chose - cheap broadcast! Shame on you Fox 45 - Asa was one of your BEST!

They are going to try to save money by replacing a popular anchor with someone cheaper. Possibly causing them to lose viewers which equal money. Bring back Asa!

Dumb, Dumb move on Fox 45. Just lost another viewer. Asa was the best morning anchor on TV in Dayton. They should’ve let the other jerk so in the morning not Asa. You will be missed.

According to Wiki that is true, but how reliable is Wiki? Tried FCC site but no luck. Also I assumed that because Toledo is bigger in population ,that it would be (common sense), a bigger market. If I am wrong, my apologies to all my fans. BTW I am from up in that area and Toledo stations are SOOOO much more professional.

Maybe it will change their obviously feeble minds. As a side note, The “CW” has a 10pm newscast as well. It’s WDTN, but that’s okay. That’s what I’ll be watching now. Afterall, Fox45 repeated their whole 10-1030 broadcast from 1030-1100. How can you report an hours worth of news? You can’t. You just repeat yourself. SCREW WGRT!!! Nice to see Asa and her friends posting on here. I for one am glad to see her go. She hardly ever looked happy on the show. I even wrote in a few times to tell them that. She’s a “star?” What show were you people watching? Get over it. She’s gone. Life goes on. Now at least they can have fun on the show. Asa must think she’s better than everyone else. Sorry to tell you - you’re not.

By Asa Who?

Some people move on to bigger and better things. Some get out of the business on their own. Some are “helped” out of the business because they can’t realize just how bad they are on their own. Asa? Cares about Dayton? Wake up, kids. Ms. Big Time is moving on up! That agent has done a lot for her “incredible talent” over the past FIVE YEARS, huh? Buh-bye.

Pete Scalia cannot compare to Asa George. He is rude and unprofessional. His attempt at humor is offensive. No wonder channel 5 gave him the axe and ended up with Valerie Abati. What is wrong with the Management? It seems they want to be the least watched in the dayton market! I am going back to Cbs and Nbc. They have dropped the ball this time. I have also pulled my advertising from two family business’. I hope they all hit the unemployment line at 22 and 45 (Mike Terwilliger excluded).

Oh yea. Pete Scalia is one hell of a liar. On his website he claims to have toured with Ted Nugent and has a picture of himself backstage. I spoke to Ted about a month ago in Louisville KY, and he hadn’t a clue in hell who Pete Scalia was.

I’m am so surprised that Asa is nolonger going to be on the news in the mornings. Like others have said she was the reason I switched to and made it a point to watch in the am. You should have let Rhonda go. How boring can one person be. I agree she only talks about how cold she is and has a hohum attitude. Pete and Asa had a chemistry that she brought out of him. The new person lacks that. It was nice watching fox 45 but no more it puts me to sleep. Don’t even like the way the cooking segments go - boring

Looks like the firing of Asa is backfiring in a big way. Channel 22/45’s chipmunk replacement is getting nervous, realizing she’s in over her cheeks. And now with Channel 2’s excessive commercials, shrill new lady, and Buch crap, I actually have to tune to Channel 7 for some creepy news. I’ve always feared ever having to have to do that. Oh, Asa!

Asa George let go? I watched the fox 45 in the Morning just to see her. I was gone for a while and when I came home there was another person in George’s place. I don’t buy the economic explanation. You guys messed up. I’m not watching any Fox 45 programing because of the economy. Yeah right.

it’s kind of funny…i turn on 45 to watch asia and pete then realize that the commercials i had seen leading up to this day with only him in them - really did mean something… i’m pissed! i even emailed 45 and pete to see what happened, but of course no response!!! i really liked her!! i’m a news addict - so i only watch 7 and 45. i had to find out about her on GOOGLE…that’s sad. did they even say goodbye?? i saw they did say goodbye to their newsgirl but she’s “leaving” to do church work. i really wanted to find out if the new girl was pete’s new wife…but i guess she’s not.

OK….i posted my comments then went back up to read other’s comments….Asa, I HOPE you go to channel 7 and replace that malcum MAYLOX…NOW he makes me puke on t.v.! He’s not bad in person…but he studdors on camera and malcum and rhonda need their own show…. they would just sit there - her humhum and him dadada… give me a break. i loved pete and asa together. i thought they were perfect. the only time i like rhonda is when she tries yoga or something - then she has personality. i liked the fact that asa and pete would laugh and make the news more real. they would laugh when need be and sympethic when talking about someone dying or accidents instead of the channel 7 way - no personality - SMILE when they are talking about an accident or death. malcom does that s**t all the time. he will be reading the prompter about a fire or car crash and be smiling and slipping on his words. i’m on a rant…this just pisses me off that they let her go! I might have to agree and say screw 45/22 and just watch cincinnati news. hate channel 2 all together and i don’t want to see the morning show on 7. errrrrrr
