So, did you get your free chicken?

Update: KFC offers rain check. Read more here

Maybe Wall Street should team up with Oprah.

A union with ‘O’ seemingly worked out for KFC.

Kentucky Fried Chicken teamed with Oprah to deliver coupons for free samples of Kentucky Fried Chicken’s new Kentucky Grilled Chicken the masses at participating locations.

The “Oprah Winfrey Show Kentucky Grilled Chicken Two-piece Meal Coupon” was available Tuesday and Wednesday.

See prior Seen and Overheard item here.

All indications are that KFC and Oprah touched wonder rings and created magic.

People were really, really, really into the free chicken thing.

According to internet buzz, the Louisville chain’s grilled chicken website was overwhelmed by downloads, and its stores ran out of free chicken.

Some coupon holders were turned away.

The coupon is redeemable at participating KFC locations through May 19, excluding Sunday, May 10.

Here’s a question for you, did you get your free bird?

Yes I did get my free chicken. It was quite tasty. There were others who weren’t so grateful. They wanted to choose their own sides. With the mad rush the store was getting, the manager said they all come with mash and slaw. This one lady just was not happy at all. I appreciated the free meal. Good one for Oprah.

Yes, I have tried the new grilled chicken. It was very good. Reminded me of El Pollo Loco, a chain in southern Calif. of marinade grilled chicken. I did download my coupons, it took me about 25 minutes. I plan to call the KFC prior to going out to use my coupon. I think it was very generous of KFC to do this. As a consumer, I will remember this when it comes to spending my money.

I read this morning about this for the first time (I don’t watch “O”) and there were so many that couldn’t get a coupon, or couldn’t get the coupon redeemed, I wrote it (and KFC) off for lousy preparation and went on with my day.

I don’t like mashed potatoes, don’t like slaw, don’t like thighs or legs either. I received my free meal and passed it on to someone else. Great advertisement for their new grilled chicken though.

I guess I wasn’t patient enough. I even downloaded the coupon printer. But after about 15 minutes I quit. I will try the grilled chicken though the next time I go to KFC.

Tried the grilled KFC 2pc. chicken Mon. 5-4-09 @ store#F036-007 11:26am & found it to be greasier than the reg. thigh was a very sm. square & leg looked like a pigeon’s. Thigh was dried out like it was yesterdays. Liked the coleslaw & green beans. We have written KFC off our list of places to eat.

We used all four of our coupons. Used them two days in a row for lunch. The store was VERY nice letting us pick which pieces we wanted and which sides we wanted. No problems with using them at all! The chicken was a little dry, but was still good! How nice of KFC to give out free meals~ in this day and time everyone is out to save some money! They were pretty busy, but no lines or anything. Just a little busier than normal.

I live in Bryan-College Station, Texas, but grew up in Dayton. I read the DDN every day. The 2 KFC’s in my town were inundated with coupons and ran out of chicken right away. It was the subject of a special story on the 10:00 News last evening. Instead, coupon holders received a form at both B-CS eateries. Customers were asked to fill it out, attach the original coupon and send it off for another free meal. Their prize for being patient, a free Pepsi. This was very gracious of KFC.

I visited the KFC on verity parkway and the food was great, customer service was excellent and the wait time was at minimum for the situation. We were able to choose our sides and if they were out, they offered you options or a drink for inconvenience. I will remain a customer of KFC, VERITY PKWY, MIDDLETOWN

My family all enjoyed a free dinner blessing and was very grateful. Chicken was a little dry but how can you complain over $20 free food? Praise The Lord!

I went to the one in Xenia. It was absolute chaos. The people who were in front of us were being asked their entire order. If you didn’t care what you got in forms of chicken then you got bumped to the head of the line. If I was a paying customer I would have been pissed as people weren’t served in the order they arrived. The food was fine for me but not my husband. He was hurting the next day.

No, which I think is BS. There was one couple in line ahead of us, one after us; that was it. They had the chicken but refused to honor the coupons I had printed. Sounds like fraud of a different color. Guy behind us said “she’s just trying to do her job” when I asked for an explanation. Yeah, then do your job and honor the coupon!!!!!!!!!! No more Colonel Sanders for me. EVER!
