Calvin Klein’s ‘foursome’ billboard causing stir

Well, no one can say Calvin Klein is afraid of a lot of controversy.

A naughty new Calvin Klein billboard in New York’s SoHo is shaking heads and wagging tongues.

Does this Calvin Klein billboard go to far?

“It’s borderline pornographic,” Lisa Marchese, 36, told the New York Daily News. “They all look so young, particularly the girl. And to portray them in a threesome - it’s just taking it too far.”

The clothing designer’s ad features a youthful-looking female lying bare-chested on top of one shirtless dude while making out with another.

A third guy is on the floor with his hands near his zipper.

A Calvin Klein spokesperson told the Daily News that the intention of the ad was to “create a very sexy campaign that speaks to our targeted demographic.”

This of course is not the first time a Calvin Klein ad has raised eyebrows.

The brand has been crossing eyes since 1981 when a then 15-year-old Brooke Shield said “You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins, nothing.”

What do you think? Does the ad cross the line?

Dayton native gets shoutout in ‘Rolling Stone’

From Bob Underwood, Staff Writer

A band with Dayton ties gets a glowing blurb in the “Fricke’s Picks’ section of the June 11 issue of “Rolling Stone.”

Music writer David Fricke celebrates “out there” sounds, and he turned an ear to Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber, a huge, unpredictable band conducted/led by guitarist Greg Tate — who was born in Dayton and moved to Washington, D.C., when he was 13.

Cleveland native Jared Michael Nickerson began playing bass at Dayton high schools and in area talent shows.

Based in New York City, Burnt Sugar’s latest release “Making Love to the Dark Ages” is out on LiveWired Records.

The band formed in 1999 and in 2006 played the University of Dayton’s Boll Theater to conclude a week-long residency at UD and Stivers School for the Arts.

Fricke calls the band “a fleet-footed big band, sliding and swaggering through galactic R&B, brawny jazz and electric funk like a Sun Ra-size spin on Miles Davis’ On the Corner band.”
