Local grad to appear on Diddy’s new MTV show

A recent graduate of an area university will appear on MTV’s “Making His Band” when it premieres Monday, July 27.

“Wilberforce definitely prepared me for this,” Aston Turner said of appearing on the Sean “Diddy” Combs show.

The Los Angeles area native graduated from Wilberforce University earlier this year with a degree in mass media and communications.

The 28-year-old competed in several Wilberforce and Central State University talent shows while living in the Miami Valley.

The show has musicians compete for the right to back up Combs during his upcoming tour for his new album “Last Train to Paris.”

The elimination show included several music-based challenges and had contestants live together in Los Angeles while.

It is a spin-off of sorts to Combs’ popular “Making The Band” series.

Turner, an R&B, soul and pop vocalist, counts Whitney Houston, Brandy and Faith Evans among her chief influences.

Turner called being on the show a surreal experience.

“I would question ‘Am I really here?’ everyday,” she added.
