Time Warner to replace Think TV in Cincinnati with the Home Shopping Network, changes to Dayton programming unclear

The public television landscape may be reshaped in the Miami Valley.

Time Warner has announced that WPTD-TV (Channel 16) is among the eight public TV channels it will drop from it’s basic cable plan in Cincinnati Aug. 25.

Sue Brinson, communications manager for the Think TV, said she did not know details of Time Warner’s plans for the Dayton market.

David Fogarty, President of Public Media Connect, will meet with cable company representatives today to discuss proposed changes that will affect ThinkTV16/WPTD, ThinkTV14/WPTO and CET locally, she said.

Think TV will be replaced by the Home Shopping Network in Cincinnati, according to published reports.

A Time Warner Cable official could not immediately be reached for comment.

This is disgraceful. I guess Cincy Public TV didn’t poney-up enough money to satisfy TW.

This is apalling. Think TV is the only thing worth watching on modern TV. I guess it was to smart for the conservatives in Cincy!

WOW, take off the channel with educational programming for kids, and replace it with the Home Shopping Network. Gotta love it

Remember, cable and satellite companies pay the channels or network to be ‘allowed’ to carry the channel. Channels like Home Shopping Network, QVC, and so on pay the carrier. So, let’s see, TW pay money out for a channel or *receive money for a different channel… Which one will win ?

If you think about all the garbage that is on TV today with no real value to the consumer and you dump a value TV station like Think TV for another shopping channel. Woo!I guess that just shows you what a valuable channel the shopping channel is. Just Kidding

…the total dumbing down of the Cincy market for the Home $hopping Network. It’$ perfect. I wonder how many PBS channels will be lost over the next few months. How much did Channel 2 have to come up with to get back on TW.

Why would anyone pay for tv these days, anyway? If you have an HDTV and watch ThinkTV why would you pay to watch it? Buy ANY, and I mean ANY set of rabbit ears and you can watch PBS in HD as well as being able to access 4 other ThinkTv stations, all with the clarity of cable, and not a single bill. Are you people ready to wise up to the country-destroying, ignorant television shows on cable?

It’s got to be Speedway’s fault. Or maybe MVH.

Who on earth watches HSN religiously anyway? Dumping a valued station for something no one watches (unless you have money to throw away and are bored out of your mind…in which case you need to get off your butt) is pointless.

You can thank your Republican state representatives for this. At the instigation of the cable companies they pushed through a bill eliminating local cable councils which had some control over cable companies. With no local control, the companies can do anything they want.

TimeWarner sucks. I turned my boxes in last month and said bye to them forever. I wasn’t the only one, as I stood in line at their new Dayton location in the freaking ghetto there were at least four others also turning in their equipment and canceling their accounts.

Gave up on TW many moons ago. I love just having broadcast HD now. PBS has 5 channels, and well worth watching. TW had like a crap ton of channels that were lifeless. Once enough people drop their service, they will add PBS back.

I love my DirecTV, except for the fact that DirecTV is based in California and uplinked in Castle Rock, Colorado. If DirecTV wants more folks in this area to subscribe, they aught to move some jobs to downtown Dayton from Denver or Los Angeles. TW was awful to deal with, I’m so glad I’m done with TW.

I agree with Just a Dad, cancel the TW and watch the Big Bird channel for free in HD over the air.

With a little effort, you can make your very own Gray-Hoverman antenna, and receive the channel 14 Think TV channels in Cincinnati—FOR FREE. The HD broadcasts look a lot better this way than they do through TW. But I am an Evil Conservative, and have the gumption to build my own antenna, and do not require spoon-feeding of the tv I want.

In 1996 the government sold our public airwaves to companies for next to nothing-for the sake of growing the industry. Now cable subscribers get to pay big bucks for programming they can’t even choose. Programs that have educational and local relevance have no place in TW’s line up as they don’t make $ from them. FYI John Boehner received $6000 from TW this year.

Why is it no matter what the subject is about a racist jerk have to always comment? That’s exactly why this country is in the shape it is now..Why? Because of greedy, selfish, racist people. Get over it and face it! The world is made up with different people and why? Because we are all here to learn and teach each other! Do us all a favor and shut up! And the bottom line to this subject money talks! And we wonder why kids are not doing well in school! They care more about money than education! God have mercy and bless us all!

I remember the removal of C-SPAN 2 last fall. This is really starting to get unacceptable. Call your state of Ohio and federal representatives office, and report back (here)on what their responses are.
