Then the author writes a “retarded” sentence about Palin wanting him fired for breathing. I am not a Palin fan, but is this the best that a writer for the DDN can do? I wouldn’t pay her 2 dollars for such a horrible display of writing skills. She has been failed by whatever educational institutions she has attended. If I were Palin, I would call for her resignation because she writes like a 12 year old. I could write articles that has a lot of quotes then says some ridiculous phrase that has no intelligent meaning. The DDN should be ashamed of themselves for hiring this writer. I am going to bet this lady does not ever win any awards based on her superior writing skills. I can relate to what Mrs. Palin is trying to say. I have a “special needs” child and although he is not retarded, some may argue that point only because he doesn’t understand the simple things unless you explain it to him a couple of times. The politically correct word nowadays is “mentally challenged”. The phrase could cover alot. You will have to be in our shoes to understand what she is talking about. I too am sensitive to the word “retarded”. It does sound derogatory although it may not be to some. This is not about Mrs. Palin this time. Kristi you can not assume what he was referring to as “retarded”, whether it be the issue, the group’s actions, the entire incident, or the person standing next to them, because HE did not give a reference to his statement, whoever wrote the article is the one who is referring his comment to the group. If one person posted “f-ing retarded” as their post on this article, you wouldn’t know if they meant the article, the writer or your comments.

the reason the R-word is so offensive is that the word has been eliminated from use as it pertains to persons with developmental or cognitive deficits, because of the derogatory nature of the word, and because it doesn’t effectively characterize the deficits, I am offended too, as I have a son with autism, a developmental delay, but he is by no means retarded, just challenged to find effective ways to process the cognitive skills he has

Retarded means slow or limited in intellectual or emotional development or academic progress. It is only offensive in nature when referring to people who actually are mentally retarded or people who just want to remain popular at any cost, knowing that sympathizers tend to reject logic. As in Ohio, the word has proven not to be bad, but the reference to a specific group was. So my comment was censored, what new DDN? Because I wrote THE TRUTH about something? The denotative (dictionary) meaning of the N-word is an ignorant person. It is used as a derrogitory term, unless its used within a friendly setting.
