Centerville student in running for $25,000 for Children’s

From Hannah C. Bealer, Staff Writer

A two year volunteer at Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, Rahul Dole has witnessed the struggles of cancer patients and their families.

Behind the emotional pain, there are the financial battles. Dole, a Centerville High School student, watched as parents had to quit jobs and take out loans, just to be with their children while still paying for their bills.

Moved by his experiences at the hospital, Dole entered a project designed to help fund patients into a competition sponsored by Pepsi. Pepsi will give $1,300,000 to a handful of worthy projects, and now Dole is in the running.

Dole is asking for $25,000 for Children’s and needs your vote online at http://www.refresheverything.com/needypatient. Voting ends on July 31 and the top ten are announced on Aug. 1.

He would split the money three ways: $10,000 towards utility bills, phone bills and rent for cancer families; $10,000 for transportation costs and . $5,000 for food and medicine for cancer families.

Dole’s project is currently in 69th place out of nearly 300 participants in his category. To receive funding, he will need to make it to the top ten.
