Americans eat 17 pounds of turkey a year
Turkey is not just for turkey day . According to the National Turkey Federation, an advocacy group for the industry, the consumption of turkey has increased 109 percnt since 1970.
The group says 17 pounds of turkey was eaten per person last year.
In 1970, about 50 percent of turkey consumed was eaten during the holidays. Now that number is roughly 30 percent.
