Crayons to Classrooms relies on donation school supplies and financial contribution from charitable foundationd, individuals and corporations.
Teachers from needy schools visit the organization’s warehouse and pick out school supplies for students. Rubenstein said the facility resembles an office supply store.
“The difference is there is no cash register at the end,” he said.
Crayons for Classrooms currently donates supplies for students 34 area schools.
Rubenstein said students at an additional 54 would qualify for the program because 70 percent of students at those schools could receive federally assisted lunches.
“We have reached this milestone, but there is still an awful lot of work to do,’ Rubenstein, said.
