Denver Bronco teaching in Miamisburg schools

Miamisburg High School has a Denver Bronco on its staff during the NFL lockout.

David Bruton is being paid $90-per-day to substitute teacher at his alma mater, according to the Denver Post.

Bruton received a license from the Ohio Department of Education and can teach kindergarten through high school, the newspaper reports.

“I’m just trying to keep busy,” Bruton reportedly said. “and it’s nice to be able to give back to my community.”

The 23-year-old is considering a career in the classroom after his NFL days end. His son and former girlfriend live in Miamisburg.

Columnist Tom Archdeacon will have a complete story on Bruton in Friday’s Dayton Daily News.

Dayton ranks 7th on list of ‘dirt-cheap’ housing markets

Well, at least you can afford to live here.

The Dayton area ranks 7th on CNN Money’s list of 10 dirt-cheap housing markets.

The web site list the top major housing markets where the typical home costs less than $82,000.

The median home price in the Dayton market is $78,000 according to CNN Money.

The web site uses information from the National Association of Realtors. It cites “keystone industries in decline” as a reason for the relatively inexpensive housing market here.

“The shrinkage has pressured home prices lower and many decent little homes sell for less than $50,000. Bigger, more expensive homes are bargains too, with a beautiful three-bedroom, 2,400-square-foot house currently going for about $155,000,” CNN Money says.

Three other Ohio cities also make the list. In fact, Youngstown tops it with a median home price of $55,400.

Toledo ranked third with a median home price of $64,900 and Akron ranked fifth with a median home price of $74,900

Here is the list:

1) Youngstown, Ohio. Median price: $55,400

2) Lansing, Mich. Median price: $64,400

3) Toledo, Ohio. Median price: $64,900

4) South Bend, Ind. Median price: $68,700

5) Akron, Ohio. Median price: $74,900

6) Ocala Fla. Median price: $75,400

7) Dayton, Ohio. Median price: $78,000

8) Cumberland, Md. Median price: $80.700

9) Grand Rapids, Mich. Median price: $81,100

10) Decatur, Ill. Median price: $81,300

Zumba party to rock Washington Twp. club

From Robin McMacken, Staff Writer

If you want to enjoy a 150-calorie glass of white wine this weekend at South Beach Nite Club, you might want to hit the dance floor during the club’s Zumba party first to burn anywhere from 500 to 700 calories.

Consider it a more than fair caloric exchange as well as great way to have fun and stay fit.

Zumba classes start this week at South Beach Nite Club, 729 Lyons Road, Washington, Twp., Montgomery County. According to club owner Shawn Oliver, the international flavor of the high-energy dance-exercise form will appeal to South Beach’s diverse audience.

Certified Zumba instructor Melissa Blair will lead a preview class from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

The first official Zumba club party will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Participants will pay $5 to join the dance.

Next week, classes will be offered Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Blair said more classes may be added in the future, and various Zumba instructors will be brought in to teach.

For more information, call the club at (937) 439-9040.
