Actor to host local magazine’s event for former soap star, author
The man who played Sweetpea in the 2001 film “Baby Boy” will host a local event Saturday, Aug. 27 honoring the first anniversary of “JO Magazine.” Omar Gooding will make a red carpet entry into the formal celebration 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Dayton Convention Center, 22 East Fifth St.
The Xenia-based, bi‐monthly entertainment magazine launched in February of 2010.
Gooding, the brother of Academy Award-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr., was on the cover of the magazine’s September 2010 edition.
” We are so excited that he will be hosting the event and bringing Hollywood to Dayton,” said Joleen K Norman, CEO and publisher of JO Magazine.
Actress and author Victoria Rowell and Dayton author Valerie J. Lewis Coleman will be honored for their literary contributions.
Rowell a former “The Young and the Restless” star, is the author of “The Women who raised me” and “Secrets of a Soap Opera Diva.”
Coleman has penned several books, including “Blended Families An Anthology” and “The Forbidden Secrets of the Goody Box.”
Gooding has roles in “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper,” “Smart Guy,” “Playmakers,” and “Ghost Dad” and Baby Boy. He played Calvin Palmer Jr. in Showtime’s “Barbershop: The Series.”
