Charity’s store moving to site of former market
Corner Cupboard Thrift Store plans to make a big move.
The volunteer-run charity will move to the former site of Twin Towers Market in about six months, said Joe Klosterman, president of Corner Cupboard Charities Inc. board.
The new site in the 500 block of Xenia Avenue is 9,500 square feet. It is three times larger than the store’s current location on Pierce Street, Klosterman noted.
“It helps to have a bigger store so you can sell more and give a way more money,” he said
The market has been closed for several years, Klosterman said.
Corner Cupboard sales support more than 30 charities, including East Dayton Food Pantry, St. Vincent Hotel, and House of Bread.
Founded by 21 Dayton women in 1960, the organization’s thrift store has been located at its current location since 1967.
The $250,000 move will be paid for using money from the charity’s capital fund and grants from the Dayton Foundation and the Mathile Family Foundation.
