Tecumseh graduate Josh McKee (left photo) and South graduate Michael Cooper (right, both staff photos by Barbara J. Perenic) wrapped up football season last Saturday, Nov. 15, as Wittenberg lost at Wooster.
Now they and two football teammates, Drew Fisher and James Tyus, are practicing with Wittenberg’s basketball team.
The season starts Nov. 25 at Capital University. The Tigers stay the night in Columbus that night and then fly across the country the next morning from Columbus to Seattle for a two-game tournament at Pacific Lutheran.
“We’re transitioning them,” Wittenberg coach Bill Brown said on Tuesday. “They are going just an hour yesterday, today, tomorrow. Thursday, we’re hopeful they can go through the whole practice. We don’t practice Friday.
“Saturday, Sunday, they go through the whole practice. We have a junior varsity game on Monday night, and I can see those four playing in that. It’s at Southern State. They will be at home while we’re in Seattle. Then game is on when we get back for them to see if and how quick they can move up the ladder.”

Former Kenton Ridge High School baseball coach Tom Randall will be inducted into the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame on Jan. 23 in Columbus. Randall will be the first local coach inducted since Bob Brenning of Urbana in 2003.

Randall went 524-239 in 29 seasons with Kenton Ridge. He retired after leading the Cougars to the state championship game in 2007.
Read more about Randall’s induction the day after the ceremony in the News-Sun or at SpringfieldNewsSun.com.

SPRINGFIELD — One of the most compelling storylines of the 2008 Ohio prep football season is the Logan Elm Braves.
After finishing 0-10 last season, the Braves went 12-1 — a feat which rarely happens in the state of Ohio.
They lost to Col. Eastmoor Academy 23-0 on Saturday night in the Division III, Region 12 playoffs.
The Braves’ turnaround is proof, that no matter how dire a situation might seem at any given school in any given sport, there is always hope. Hard work always perseveres.

CLAYTON — A loss in the Division VI, Region 24 final isn’t what Mechanicsburg was hoping for.
The Indians couldn’t slow down Sidney Lehman Catholic’s rushing attack, falling to the Cavaliers 28-13 in the Division VI, Region 24 final at Northmont’s Good Samaritan Stadium.
The Indians couldn’t get anything going offensively, especially on the ground. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers rushed for 272 yards on the ground with their three-back attack of Max Cartwright, Zac Schmitz and Kaleb Goins.
But there’s no denying what the Indians have achieved this season.
“This pain will last for a few weeks,” said Mechanicsburg coach Chris Kosiorek. “but the memories will never fade.”
The Indians finished the season 12-1, advancing to the regional final for the second time in three years. They also won the Ohio Heritage Conference and finished the year ranked No. 2 in the Division VI.
They graduate 12 seniors who’ve advanced to the playoffs four years in a row, including two regional final appearances.
“They’ve had a tremendous season and careers,” Kosiorek said.
Here’s a link to the final box.
