New mall restaurant now plans March opening
BEAVERCREEK — Spinoza’s Gourmet Pizza & Salads — the restaurant that local restaurateur Glen Brailey will open inside the Mall at Fairfield Commons — has a revised projected opening date of March 17.
Brailey — founder of Pacchia who sold his majority ownership of the restaurant along with the building in April 2008 — said he has selected managers and will start interviewing for staff positions this week, with an eye toward opening in three weeks.
The March 17 projected opening date “is pretty solid,” Brailey said, although the restaurant must still obtain state liquor-control permits and undergo health-department inspections.
The 120-seat restaurant will serve what Brailey called “California-style gourmet pizza and artisan salads.” The restaurant will be located in the mall space that once housed California Pizza Kitchen, which closed in November 2006. The 5,000-square-foot space is near the Sears entrance to the Fairfield Commons mall.

I hope the prices are better than California Kitchen, especially for lunch. The place failed, in my opinion, because of the prices.

Naysayers out in force again. If folks in Dayton only see bad results, what does that contribute too? Traffic, traffic .. I suppose if you live in Jamestown the traffic in Xenia is terrible, live in Xenia, Dayton is tied up, live in Columbus-Cincinnati-Chicago … there is no traffic problem in the Dayton area! You are spoiled. Only traffic is when weather is bad, wreck on I-75 or Xmass at the Mall & events at Nutter.

Judi- I agree. I own a home very close to “Fairfield Commons” and whenever I drive by, they are packed. All the time. A bunch of nay sayers… Personally, I wish they’d never have built that mall and half the other crap going up around there. Friggin traffic is Crazy!! Slow Down People. Or, I’ll pull out and let you buy me a new car because you couldn’t stop in time. Assured clear distance…

Hey I can’t wait to grab a bite to eat, drink some mall beer and drive home. Anyone ever think that you could have a beer or two with dinner and not be able to drive home safely? Lets kill that there flea on yer forehead with a sledge hammer!

As usual, the negative trolls that live around here are out as usual. The Greene and Fairfeld Commons are two different venues and both are nice. I think IQ tests are in order for posting remarks on here!

I read “Gourmet Pizza” and “California Style” and my mind says “OVERPRICED” and “CRAPPY TASTING”. Out of business by this date 2011.

The Greene is the death blow to the Fairfield Commons..FC was nice while it lasted, but The Greene is far superior and drawing stores and restaurants (AND $$)away from Fairfield Commons.

A gourmet pizza restaurant would be an excellent addition to the new restaurants at Dayton Mall, like Bonefish Grill, PF Changs, Cena, Rusty Bucket and Bravo. They’re all “at the mall” but with parking right at the door…an excellent concept. That’s where we go for a great dinner out.

Daniel, you are a genius. I would be more concerned, though, about anything served “California” style.
By Fairfield Commons?? Really??

What a ridiculous investment! With all the stores that have left Fairfield Commons and all the ones planning to leave by year’s end, this seems like a horrible location for a restaurant like this. Farfield Commons is going the way of the Salem Mall…a slow and painful death.

I wonder how wise it is to open a new restraunt in the area with all the ones that have recently failed due to economic conditions?

Daniel, how is this different from Ruby Tuesday’s or any other restaurant connected to a mall. I have seen many malls across the country have sports bars or pubs accessible from with in a mall. People will drink and drive no matter where the alcohol is served. Maybe here they will walk around the mall shopping, make some impulse buys, and sober up.

its not very good to serve liquor in a mall and then have the people drive home after drinking !!

We are looking forward to trying out this restaurant. We really miss the California Pizza Kitchen and hope this will help fill the void.
