Hot dog chain opens restaurant in Springboro
A Sam’s Hot Dog Stand restaurant has opened at 54 Hiawatha Trail in Springboro.
The hot dog shop, which opened last week, is located in the rear of a strip shopping center off Ohio 73, in a location that previously housed the Ragamuffin Cafe. It is the sole Ohio location of a 44-restaurant chain headquartered in Waynesboro, Virginia. The other restaurants are located primarily in West Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky.
Mary Davis, who lives in Montgomery in suburban Cincinnati, is the owner-operator of the franchise. Davis and her daughter, Pam Malpass, are the sole employees.
Davis said she operated four Sam’s Hot Dog Stand restaurants in West Virginia before moving to Ohio seven years ago. She worked in retail jobs in the lat seven years, but found that she missed the restaurant business.
“I figured I’d look for a location here and do it again,” she said of becoming a Sam’s franchisee. “I plan on opening more, although I’ve got to get this one going well first.”
The initial reception “has been good, given that people are probably not familiar with the chain and don’t yet know we’re here,” Davis said.
Sam’s Hot Dog Stand offers all-beef hot dogs topped with mild or spicy meat sauce, pork barbecue sandwiches, soups and peanut butter fudge. It is open from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday. For more information, call (937) 550-9528.

If they are only accepting cash in a restaurant or any type of business-huge, huge mistake. 30-75% of sales are being compromised without credit cards. Particularly in these economic times and a somewhat higher income community like Springboro.

yea, cash sucks, doesn’t it? Chi Town dogs are the best..it’s the amendments that make the dog…Haven’t been there yet, but plan on it, and giving them some advise on the best dogs in the country.

We found the food and the service mediocre. The spicy sauce is good. Also, they only accept cash. Don’t think we’ll be back.

I recommend the homemade vegetable soup, and the homemade peanut butter fudge. Their spicy hot dog sauce is also very good and they offer mild as well. I will definitely be back!

Good Blessings to you Mary. Huber Heights has an empty Ralleys an a empty Wendys and a empty Ruby Tuesdays if you want to put a Sams up north. Try a deep-fryed hotdog, called Rippers in NYC. They are an institution by theirselfs.

I wish her well but that location has been poison for many, many people. While we’re talking, anyone know what’s going on with Duke’s? It was supposed to be open in Oct and still no decision by the judge. Any info would be appreciated.

Producing a newspaper, especially when it’s a feature, greatly relies on tips, Scott. Always has. Always will. Receiving tips in such a deadline-driven industry is as much a part of journalism as anything else. You’re right about one thing, though. Sorry about the name-calling.

Hey Null: It is not my job to let the paper know what is going on. That is their job. I am sure there are records showing what businesses are opening around town. It is called journalism. Ask anyone who lives in the northern suburbs and they will tell you the media is geared towards the south suburbs. Only immature people like you resort to name calling

A paper is only as good as the source material they receive, Scott. Maybe if you would have phoned it in to them as opposed to whining about it like an ignorant baby here, there would have been an article about it.

She is opening at the worst time of the year in the restaurant (quick serve) business. Nov. through March are generally the softest months. This location has never had one business make it in the last 20 years. I wish her well, but I hope her start up costs were very small and she received a lot of rent concessions.

Scott: If you know of a new restaurant opening in Englewood or anywhere else in the Dayton area, please let me know at mfisher@daytondailynews.com or call me at 225-2258. I’ll write about it. The DDN and this Taste blog two weeks ago did just that with Oinkadoodlemoo, the new BBQ place that opened in Englewoood. I’d love to hear from you or other readers who have news about local restaurants — north, south, east, west or downtown.

I agree, I hope they do well……but I have never seen a business do well in that location. I think there has been around 5 there in 10 years.

Sadly this franchise will not survive. Hope she didn’t spend too much on the license. This type of restaurant would do better in a mall and open EVERY day.

Why did they pick such a lousy location? Nobody will be able to find them!
