Do you realize some people celebrate Christmas on different days bescause of jobs and some would love to work as much as they can to make money..What is the problem. It benefits everyone and these Scrooges who have no heart would probaly shut everthing down on Sundays too..Just live and let be..It won’t hurt you….

Thanks to the great folks at Palermo’s for being open on Christmas. That was the best pizza I have had in this area. And for the hard working waitress to whom I kept accidentally getting in the way of while I was waiting for my carryout order, I am sorry about that. I hope your holiday season has been bright, and will continue to be so.

My comments went right over your head Cin. I have worked many times on Christmas day or Thanksgiving so my coworkers could be with family. I was a Cop. Felt great to do this even when my then young son’s waiting for me at home. My Youngest son a Navy Seabee in Afghanistan WHOSE unit may be extended 3 to 6 months. So he is working on Christmas for us. Again IF any one got upset that some place was open, then don’t eat or go there. Very simple. As a Veteran I didn’t get to fly home for Christmas, when I was serving, when I did come home the next year at Christmas, I made certain I thanked each place that was open. A warm place and nice smile could have been all a person got for Christmas.

Beth, your job is in the “essential” job and I am thankful for all of those that have to work rather than be with family. Ryan, blah blah blah, you missed the point as most have. I’m blown away by the comments, not one person cares about those forced to work all they care about is themselves. The point here was this, if you didn’t go out, then someone who is forced to work holidays would get a break and not have to work so that they too can be home with their families. It’s about being home with their families and friends and that they deserve ONE day off to do that. The world won’t stop if non essential people take a day off and you prepare for a day to take care of your own meal!

Cin, turn off your power, DP&L have people working today. Turn off the gas, Vectren have people working today. Don’t use your phone, Verizon have people working today. Don’t watch the 6pm news. WDTN, WHIO, & WKEF/WRGT all have people working today. Why are you on the DDN website today? People working there today! Your original post was just uneducated sounding. Think before you post!

And you, cin, apparently think people should be forced into following your holiday regardless of their own beliefs.

To cin & Uncoolio: I am a nurse & i just got home from work. If you are ill or in an accident on Christmas, do you want the hospitals to be open for business, or will you boycott them, too? Yes, we’d all like to be able to enjoy our families on holidays, but many people depend on us…we never close. If, after working all day on a holiday, I would like to pick up something for supper rather than cooking, why shouldn’t I be able to? Boycott all you want, but pray you never need medical attention on a holiday…it is evidently against your religion.

I read most of the comments, and besides “essential”, people ie firemen, police etc people should be off. It was clear to me, by your remarks, that all you’re thinking about is yourselves and how someone else can do something for you. I did like the owners comment on letting the employee’s choose, how nice! Oh yes, and not all may celebrate Christmas but for crying out loud they should be able to cook ONE flipping dinner once a year for themselves.

John A you are an ignorant excuse for a human being…restaraunts do not compensate for lack of gratuity! Servers in restaraunts are very hardworking people who provide a service just like anyone else who “works” for you and they absolutly DESERVE to be compensated for their efforts! you have a very Merry Christmas John A because I have a feeling that you really need that sentimate more so than those who work their fingers to the bone to make ends meet because those people know what it means to appreciate and be appreciated!

I own a restaurant and in years past I always post a sign up sheet for the holidays. I know how much staff it would take to give good service to our customers on Christmas thanksgiving and Easter so I we have to have a min. number of people sign up or we don’t open. Some years we are open some years we are not… depends mostly on my employees and their wishes. Over the years some have told me that they would rather just make money because their families do things on Christmas Eve. One time I had an employee want to work on the holidays because he wanted to not change his normal days off which were Monday and Tuesday. I feel all people are different and you should never judge someone else’s reality, and if that is they want to work on Christmas or they don’t they have the right too… without criticism

I am a local area Firefighter, and although I happen to be off this Christmas (we work a 24 on-48 off schedule)I have spent plenty Christmases and Thanksgivings in the Fire House. I don’t regret a single minute…That’s my duty and I knew that going into the fire service in 1994. So not everyone complains about working the holidays.

Some are open for business because they struggle to stay alive. They will find that their cost exceed revenues today. To PDA PEE there are many employees forced to work on this traditional holiday. You are kind of flip about this, I take it your not working today.

I don’t believe in business’s being open on Christmas, but there are people that don’t have families to share this great holiday with. I also have realized older people that don’t cook or just don’t want to be alone and need somewhere to go. It’s many reasons along with people just don’t celebrate Christmas Holiday! I applaud both companies that are closed and open because we need them both!

For those of you that gave a simple update on a simple request THANK YOU! I entered this blog wanting to know simply where to go to eat today, and I see alot of people that woke up this morning just ready to argue or fight. There are much bigger things to fight about, Each person on this blog has the right to express how they feel(whether you agree with it or not), I have a nephew right now in Afghanistan away from his 1 year old son and wife, for those of you that want to fight about something. Pick your battles, this shouldn’t be one of them.

Waffle House is open because before a new one is up and running they have a ceremony to throw the door keys into the parking lot before they have it paved. Therefore they cannot lock their doors because they have NO keys’ I would check with your local WH to verify, but that is the way it had been done for many years in the past

Christmas isn’t as universal a holiday as everyone thinks. Not everyone has the same religion either genius. Don’t assume businesses should close because you’re celebrating your religion. If you even remember that it is in fact a religious holiday.

I do, Ajax, as well as many others who don’t feel like cooking on Christmas. We also don’t want people to lose their jobs like cold-hearted misers like uncoolios. I hope he gets coal in his stocking to match the coal where his heart should be. Merry Christmas to those who are caring, feeling folks. That’s not uncoolio.

Any resturant open on Christmas should be boycotted—long term —period. If your company has so little regard for its employees and their families—-we should close them down forever—PERIOD!

Cin - I am glad that some places are open. We do our big family dinner on Christmas eve. I make a big breakfast for Christmas morning after opening gifts, but by the time its dinner time I am too tired to cook a big meal again. My family will be visiting one of these places for dinner. In protest of companies making their employee’s work on TG, Christmas, and Easter we always make sure we have everything we need so that we don’t give any company business on a day that most everyone should have off. If everyone did this, the companies would lose business and stop being open on these imprtant days. Employee’s need a break to be with their families too.
