New cupcake shop to open next week in Beavercreek
BEAVERCREEK — A new bakery specializing in cupcakes called Gigi’s Cupcakes is scheduled to open next week at 3800 Col. Glenn Highway near Wright State University.
The Beavercreek store will be the first Ohio franchise of Nashville-based Gigi’s Cupcakes, which has about 36 other shops around the country. The local store is owned by Bob and Kathy Schumann of Beavercreek. The store is scheduled to open Nov. 17.
Bob Schumann retired about 18 months ago from Hobart Corp. in Troy, where he was involved in the commercial end of the bakery business for the company that sells ovens, refrigeration equipment, dishwashers and other restaurant equipment. “But I couldn’t stand retirement,” he said. Schumann and his wife started looking for franchise opportunities and discovered a Gigi’s Cupcakes shop in Lexington, Ky.
“It’s a great product,” Schumann said. “We’ll have 10 or 11 different cupcakes made fresh every morning, and everything is done from scratch. I think it will have a lot of appeal for all ages.”
The shop will fill special orders for birthdays, weddings, corporate events and anniversaries in addition to selling retail.
The new cupcake shop is located in a strip shopping center that includes Starbucks. Schumann said the location’s proximity to the coffee shop, and to Wright State and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, attracted him.
The shop will open with eight employees, although Shumann said it’s likely he’ll expand to 10 or 12 in the coming months. A grand opening is scheduled for 9 a.m. Dec. 1.
The store’s hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and closed Sunday. For more information, call (937) 912-9576 or check out the store’s Facebook page.
