New coffee shop coming to Oregon Arts District
A new coffee shop with an artistic flair called Press will open by early January at 257 Wayne Ave. in the Oregon Arts District, the shop’s co-owner said today, Dec. 10.
The venture is owned by the husband-and-wife team of Brett and Janell Barker of Dayton. Brett Barker has been in the business for six years and managed the coffee shop at the former Pacchia. He said it was time for the couple to launch their own shop.
“I think we have the passion, the knowledge and the drive to create something special,” Barker said.
The shop, which will also include an art gallery, is scheduled to host a grand opening of sorts on Jan. 7 in conjunction with downtown Dayton’s First Friday activities, and Barker said he hopes to open “softly” sometime prior to Jan. 7. Press will serve a full coffee menu that will include espresso, cappucino and lattes as well as teas, specialty juices and sodas. Locally baked pastries will also be on the menu. All drip coffees will be brewed using a French press.
The location formerly housed Word Faith Christian Ministries and before that, Oregon Smoke Shop.
The shop will feature art exhibits that will rotate on a monthly basis in conjunction with First Friday.
