Sinclair culinary student opens new restaurant in Dayton
DAYTON — A new restaurant called R&B Grill has opened at 2160 N. Gettysburg Ave., and its owner is a student in Sinclair Community College’s culinary arts program.
Dekon Matthews, 42, of West Carrollton, has cooked in restaurants for two decades, mostly in Florida, and said he has always wanted to own his own eatery. Matthews operates the restaurant with his wife Brittany — who is also a full-time student — and another family member.
R&B’s menu includes pizza, wings, burgers, and rotating daily specials that include items such as meat loaf or fried fish, Matthews said. Plans call for building a bar and obtaining a liquor license, the restaurant owner said. The venue hosts live music — blues and jazz — on Wednesday nights starting at 7 p.m.
R&B Grill’s hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It is closed on Sundays.
