blog: Flyers’ NCAA Tournament Dream Ends
MINNEAPOLIS — Thanks to cold shooting and Kansas big man Cole Aldrich — who slapped many of their shots half way back to Ohio — the Dayton Flyers NCAA Tournament dream came to an end Sunday with a second-round loss to Kansas, 60-43 at the Metrodome.
Aldridge, ther Jayhawks 6-foot-11 center, was a monster inside. Allong with 10 blocks, he had 13 points and 20 rebounds. Kansas’ All American guard Sherron Collins had 23 points.
Several Dayton players struggled from the floor. Marcus Johnson was 1 for 11. Chris Wright was 4 for 16. Mickey Perry was 4 for 12 and Charles Little, was 2 for 10.
UD was led by Wright and Perry, both who had 10 points.
The Flyers great season ended at 27-7. Friday’s victory over West Virginia in the first round game was UD’s first in the NCAA Tournament in 19 years.
As the game ended, the Flyers — several in tears — congratulated Kansas and headed to the dressing room. They’ll return to Dayton by a charter flight scheduled to land at Wright Aero at 8:30 p.m.

Coach G has done a great job with recruiting and with the man-to-man defense. However, the offense looks horrible. We need a new offensive scheme. One that is not loaded with turnovers and bad shot selection. I am sick and tired of all of the perimeter passing and then having a player go one-on-one to the hoop. We also need a huge improvement in free throw percentage. With all of the great athletes on this team we should have done better. It comes down to the lack of a sound offense and a good game time coach.

Thanks UD for the great season and a tournament win. Congrats to Kansas for having a great game-plan. Despite the lack of class shown by X fans everywhere, I hope they continue to win (until we play them next year).

Ouch, a weak Kansas team really put a hurt on our beloved Flyers. We absolutely have to start playing a better non-con schedule. Wright is probably gone to the NBA so next year looks shaky.

These guys over-achieved this season and we should all be very proud of them! It was a fun season to watch, even with the weaker moments. There is a lot of potential with these guys—let’s hope they all spend their time wisely in the off-season! And hey, best wishes to Charles Little overseas! What a great character and a positive force for this team.

Great season! Sad to see Charles leaving, but excited about what’s still to come. I never expected 25+ wins or an NCAA victory - got em both and the season was well beyond a success!

Great season flyers!! Pretty sad when a x fan is so stupid she doesn’t think everyonew will know who it is all becasue she posts under a ‘jayhawk’ name. Silly muskie -everyone knows jayhawks have class, while it’s the muskies who are the a$$es

Congrats on a great season for you guys! I admired your team and how they didn’t give up. Unfortunatly, like we always said up until last year…. wait until next year. You have a new fan in kansas. Go get’em next year.

A good season. The team has nothing to be embarassed about but the Kansas game did show up the glaring weakness of this team - they can’t shoot the rock. To reach the upper level of college basketball, they really need to improve here. But that being said - they made us proud.

Congrats to the UD TEAM. Great effort all season long. Sorry to see the run end today, but with most of our players returning, our frosh improving, Lowry healing and Benson and Kavanaugh adding some more size and athleticism underneath, the future looks bright. Great job Coach Gregory in developing a program which will compete annually for the A10 crown, and a spot on the Dance floor. Go Flyers!!

Congrats Flyers. Whether cased by KU’s tough D, a bad matchup with the Jayhawks, or nerves and inexperience, poor shooting and Cole Aldrich did you in. “Rock Chalk” = loser

Congrats to the team for a great season.Keep your heads up.Kurt you need to move over and let a real center take over. You should play like the guys in real teams. If dayton gets a center and learns to shoot they could go all the way.

Trivia: What three words do UD fans yell every two minutes? Come on now UD fans, you love these words…….. they are: FOUL!!! FOUL!!! FOUL!!! Jon, Cole had 2 fouls, thank you. And he ate your Flyers up. UD had a pretty nice season, a good record (that is what you get when you play nobody) and will have future success. London Warren is WAY overrated. A point guard needs to shoot once or twice a game from 3 range. Chris Wright can only hit a shot when his hand hits the rim. Learn to shoot, and you would have had a chance. Once again, Xavier is in the TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SWEET 16, while Dayton is sitting at home. Two nice schools, but miles apart when it comes to basketball. BG has a hard time coaching when he has to look over those folding chairs. He needs a phone book or two.

Congrats to the Flyers — hold your heads high! You represented our town and our University with toughness and pride, we appreciate all your efforts this year and can’t wait until next. And oh, by the way, Tom Archdeacon, you are the best! Really enjoy the way you put us right there in the environment when you write. We are lucky to have you!

We looked very undisciplined today…forcing a lot of shots throughout the game. This has been a formula in our losses. Nonetheless, great season and great effort from the guys. Amazing at how far we went this year with a young team, and lots of new “pieces” to fit into the mix…already looking forward to next year…when can we see the schedule?

Not to sound like a baby, but how in the hell are u supposed to play against a guy who has 19 rebounds 10 blocks and 1 foul? So in those 29 times he only fouled once. Gimmie a break. Dont get me wrong Kansas was the better team, but when the offciating is so onesided why even try.

If this team has any high hopes for next year. They really need some some people you can shoot the ball. Today they were bad.. Nice season, but you have to shoot and score.

This was supposed to be a rebuilding year with the loss of B. Rob. Next year could/should be a Top Ten year. BTW, great job XU!! Keep doing the A-10 proud. No matter what, the A-10 will have at least a .500 record, and will deserve the two at-larges
