‘Don’t worry — it’s only grape juice’
That’s the slogan of a locally produced wine show called “Fun with Grapes,” starring former Fairfield Wine owner Dennis Hall. Hall had this to say about the show, which has aired some of its segments on local cable channels already:
Yes the show is still running throughout the area. It was produced by the Miami Valley Communications Council (www.mvcc.net). Miami Valley Communications Council is a municipal communications and technology organization representing the eight member cities of Centerville, Germantown, Kettering, Miamisburg, Moraine, Oakwood, Springboro and West Carrollton. The council also has affiliate agreements with 18 other Miami Valley cities. Many of the other cities (including Dayton, Huber Heights, and Beavercreek) have picked it up and are airing it at various times. It is broadcast on the public access channel (the same channel as the city council meetings).
The show “Fun with Grapes” includes fouteen 30 minute episodes. It begins with the basics of (what wine is, how to taste, serve, store), proceeds to the major grape varietals (their characteristics and food matches) and then more in-depth on the major wine regions around the world (their history, unique climate/soil, and wines). The final two episodes move out of the studio to visit a local grape grower and a stroll through his vineyard and finally a trip to Henke Winery in Cincinnati to look at the production process. The goal of the show is help people get over the hype and snobbery associated with the wine industry and to relax and enjoy good wine with friends and food. The show grew out of the classes I taught at Fairfield Wine. The feedback has been very good. I have even had people who don’t drink wine say they stumbled on the show and wound up watching the episode. I am amazed at the number of people who have recognized me at the 2nd Street Market or the mall saying “You’re the wine guy on TV!”
The unoffical motto is “Don’t worry - it’s only grape juice”
Yeah, but sometimes it can be awfully special grape juice, no?
Cheers!

Unfortunately it is not available over the air only via cable. Part of the deal between the cable TV companies and the individual cities is to provide the public access channel. Besides city council and school board meetings the public access channel provides a forum to produce local shows about politics, hobbies, music, etc.
