May we all have 80th birthday celebrations like this one

Famed British wine writer Michael Broadbent celebrated his 80th birthday with some old friends — such as Chateau Lafite and a Cockburn Port from his birth year of 1927, Decanter.com reports this morning.

The story linked to above is a fine read. You’ve got to love the quote from Broadbent’s fellow author Hugh Johnson, who sent a ‘96 Lafite to the party: “I couldn’t bear to think of Michael celebrating his 80th birthday without Lafite.”

How true. How very true.

But why wait until we’re 80 to enjoy an incredible bevy of fine wines? In the Miami Valley, every weekend is a celebration. Just click on the “Continue reading” link to see what I mean, while I give silent and reverent thanks to the Dayton-based listserv that compiles and shares this list of wine tastings, dinners, and other celebratory events. Cheers!
