Cork producers claim they’ve solved ‘taint’ — do you believe them?
The largest manufacturers of cork say they’ve cured the TCA taint that causes “corked” wines, according to Bloomberg News.
Do you believe it?
With no independent entity yet verifying the claim (at least none mentioned in this story) — and the only proof coming from the very companies that stand to lose their shirts if the current shift toward screwcaps and other alternative closures continues — well ….pardon me if I’m just an eensie weensie bit skeptical.
I hope I’m wrong.
I had to chuckle, though, when I read how two rival cork producers in two different countries were dissing each other’s methods and claiming theirs was superior. That hardly inspires clear-cut confidence, now does it?
Now, onto another matter: Which wine best accompanies watching one’s youngest child graduate from high school? I need to know the answer by tonight …
Cheers!

Mark, Congrats on the graduation. Since life right after graduation seems to be a puzzle for most of us, my pick would be Caymus Conundrum. Good Luck and Cheers!

Something under $10. Don’t you have to pay for college now?

Mark, for your matriculation-wine dilemma—how about a good Pinot? Why Pinot, you ask? I say, why not—Pinots are difficult to grow. They’re the grape with issues—look at ‘em the wrong way and you’ve got trouble. And they’re hot when they’re young, just like teenage kids striving to leave the nest. And then, one day—woohoo! They’re well balanced, structured and taste great! What better way to toast the successful completion of high school? BTW, congrats to you and yours for reaching this milestone.

I am assuming that you are talking figuratively when you say “while watching.” If you really plan to smuggle something into the actual ceremony I would suggest a flask of scotch. If you are planning a toast to your good fortune, I would go with Champagne. When it is time for quite contemplation of this important life transition I would suggest a son’s birth year Bordeaux (he was a 1989 baby correct?). what the heck Do them all. Call me if you need help with drinking the Bordeaux.

Mark, congrats to your youngest HS grad, and to all of you! Now, which wine to celebrate that event? Well, certainly this is an occasion for a very good wine, but perhaps not as good as when they both complete college! I’d vote for a Chateauneuf.

Mark, This one is a no brainer for me. The champagne that I like the best is what I would have!

What wine best accompanies watching one’s youngest graduate from high school? Why, OLD Bordeaux, of course. Congratulations, Mark and family!
